| Zenzei07-20-07, 08:55 PM | How come you have not heard of Font of Inspiration (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/frcc/20070606)? The feat is so good that optimized factotum takes it for every feat slot he/she has :) |
| AnonymousInternets07-21-07, 07:05 AM | Factotum isn't even permitted in our games. It's too good at too much, even without a lot of secondary feat support. |
| TorgSmackie07-21-07, 07:46 AM | I had thought about a feat that would let a factotum use feat retraining without having to level up (PHB2). They can still swap one feat when they level, but they could also spend like a month of training and some XP to swap a feat within the same restrictions. I'm thinking of limiting it to feats that they gained as a factotum or something. |
| Wraithwin07-21-07, 10:30 AM | Anon - Too good at too many things? What? The only way I can imagine this holding true, is if your Sorcerer or Wizard player suddenly decides to take half their levels in Fighter or something. Sure It could be better at casting or fighting than that character is now... But even in this odd or unlikely case, for a very limited amount of time. Similar to your typical Swordsage (non-optimized), the Factotem flares like a supernova in short or quick encounters, but in any long or drawn out fight/scene...? If they're trying to run at full potential, they'll probably be burnt out somewhere between 5 and 8 rounds in if even a handful of monsters have noticed them. I thought the same thing about Tome of Battle characters when I first flipped through the book - but after reading through it a few times and considering scenarios... They're tolerable. As for Feats for a Factotem... As previously said, Font of Inspiration is pretty much the only one - and totally uncalled for. LOL - I may have disagreed with you above AnonymousInternets, but if the character was allowed to take this feat enough times... then yeah, I'm on your side. By giving them more and more Inspiration Points with every taking of the feat (providing a Human that has and Int of 17 or 18 takes it as their Bonus, 1st, 3rd and 6th feat has 10 extra inspiration points), then you throw their balancing factor out the window - making it easier for them to last longer in encounters. Still this is a heavy investment in INT, likely leaving many physical traits to suffer, and all the +Attack or +Save inspirations are 1 point per attack or save roll. If you TWF at say 3rd level, that's probably 2 inspiration points to be significantly less effective than a Fighter or Ranger with anything invested in Str. (and with Int 17 and Dex 15, the other stats can't be looking too good). I'm still up in the air about this class now... I was all for it previous to the Font of Inspiration feat, but now I'm uncertain. If you're allowed to play one and you'd like to get more out of the class, "Font of Inspiration" is your new best friend. If you really want to spread things out... Try supplementing FoI with luck feats from Complete Scoundrel. That sounds fun to me. :) |
