There is a feat somewhere that will allow a non-familiar granting class levels to stack with wizards/sorcerer levels to determine the extra goodies a familiar gets. Also remember that many of the familiars abilities are based on the master's CHARACTER instead of just the class that grants the familiar to begin with.
