| lint trap06-06-07, 02:43 PM | Libris Mortis would be my guess. |
| Ages_Defiance06-06-07, 03:42 PM | no ive got that one. i was thinking maybe unearthed arcana. |
| lint trap06-06-07, 04:36 PM | Well, UA is part of the SRD, so you can check the link in my sig. What exactly does this feat do? |
| Ages_Defiance06-06-07, 06:20 PM | ooooh its a pretty cool feat. CADAVEROUS FAMILIAR [Magical] You can take an undead creature as a familiar. Prerequisite: The ability to summon a familiar, Ability to cast the animate dead spell Benefit: With this feat, the familiar ritual is performed on the animated skeleton or zombie of a type of animal that can normally become a familiar. The familiar ceremony works normally, except that the creature is not actually summoned, and must be present and under your control. A skeletal or zombie familiar is just as intelligent as any other familiar. You still get the bonuses associated with that type of (living) familiar. As an undead creature, the cadaverous familiar can be turned or rebuked, but remember that it's hit dice is equal to your level. Special: If your regular familiar is slain, you can recover the lost experience points by reanimating it and using this feat. If a cadaverous familiar is destroyed, you can merely replace any damaged parts and reanimate the remains, without losing any experience points in the process. You must dismiss any familiar you currently have before binding a new one, but need not wait a year and a day to bind a cadaverous familiar. can familiars deliver rays for you. |
| Dead_Weasel06-07-07, 03:09 AM | That is not a WotC feat, or at least not one I am aware of. LM has Stitched Flesh Familiar, which is very similar. Rays are not delivered, and without fairly specific spells/feats familiars cannot cast spells on their own. They can deliver touch spells and benefit from self-only buffs, but those are the only ways they are exceptions to the normal spell targeting rules. |
| tui06-07-07, 11:17 AM | Besides Stitched Flesh Familiar, the closest I can find to undead on the WoTC Feat Index (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/lists/feats) is Shadowform Familiar from Champions of Ruin or maybe the Shadow Familiar from Tome of Magic. Dunno what either one of them do, exactly. |
| Ages_Defiance06-08-07, 03:13 AM | Well i see. i figured it wasnt a real feat but its a cool one anyway. as for rays i would disagree. rays are touch spells and as so duely noted familiars can deliver touch spells. its states that in 3.5 touch spells are either melee or ranged and it says ranged with rays in parenthesis thats good enough for me. i know their is speculation to that and the way the familiars part is in the book doesnt make it sound like they could use your rays, i dont see why it wouldnt be possible eye lasers or something. attacks are either melee or ranged that doesnt change the fact that its an attack. touch spells are either melee or ranged i see no difference. its still a touch spell being delivered one way or another. besides that how does a familiar deliver shocking grasp. does the opponent have to be right beside you or can the familiar move away from you. in turn making it ranged for you. |
