| WolfSong04-30-08, 08:10 PM | Hopefully this is a very simple question.... Is there a feat which will allow anyone to have a favored enemy? If so where is it located? |
| dman1123504-30-08, 08:35 PM | No, this would be an unbalanced feat. I can think of many ways to abuse it, one of which is a swift hunter with scout 20. As a regional feat (I believe from Faerun, maybe somewhere else, it's in Realmshelp, link in my Handy Haversack) it's better, as the DM has to a) allow the setting, and b) allow the feat (I advise...no) but still, it's a class feature as a feat. There's a reason it's a class feature: so you have to take the class. |

Actually it's useless to a scout 20 with swift hunter, because the swift hunter feat lacks the important clause of "If you do not have ranger levels, you are treated as a ranger of your scout level for determining favored enemy". Stacking classes only works if you have at least 1 level of the class to stack with. Any ability that lets you stack without having any levels in the class specifically says so. For instance, the Halfling Outrider Prc from CW stacks with paladin, druid, or ranger levels for the purpose of determing special mount of animal companion abilities, but if you don't have levels in any of those then you are just given a free mount, but it is not a special mount of animal companion. The Enlightened Fist PrC from CAr specifically calls out what you get and don't get if you don't have monk levels. The Sacred Fist PrC from CD says it stacks with monk for unarmed damage, but then goes on to specifically state the fact that if you have no monk levels, you are treated as a monk of your Sacred Fist levels for unarmed damage. You argue that 0+X=X for stacking, when in actuality it's -+X=-, just like trying to give an enhancement bonus to an undead creature's constitution score. A non-score and a 0 are different. Characters don't have 0 levels in classes, they have no levels, and if they get an ability that lets them stack with classes they don't have, they get no benefit unless the ability specifically states otherwise. |
| ksbsnowowl05-01-08, 10:55 AM | One of the regional feats from FR grants you the favored enemy ability. Jay's above interpretation is open for debate, but ultimately it will depend on your DM's opinion. |
| aelryinth05-01-08, 04:36 PM | What Jay said, and what Snow Owl said. favored Enemy as a feat is probably more underpowered then anything, and certainly not overpowered by ANY stretch of the imagination. There's also Dragon Magazine feats out there which allow you to take additional favored enemies, and boost FE in other ways. ===Aelryinth |
| Part-Human205-01-08, 09:31 PM | Generic Classes (UA, SRD) breaks down class ability, including Favored Enemy, into feats but ONLY for use with Generic Classes so it's not for "everybody." |
| aelryinth05-02-08, 08:35 PM | Which doesn't make it overpowered to take it as a feat. It's just a 'class feature can't be made a feat' argument, which holds no water. ===Aelryinth |
