| danzibr06-05-07, 08:27 PM | Quick question: what's the feat whose prerequisite is quick draw that lets your first attack treat the opponents as if they were flat footed? Sorry, but I don't know how to better word this. I'm pretty sure it's in Complete something or other, but since I don't know enough key words I couldn't look it up... EDIT: Another question. I'm thinking of getting books, and right now I have on my want list PHB (I only have 3.0 atm), PHBII, ToB, RoW... and that's it. I'm thinking of adding Oriental Adventures, and maybe Complete Adventurer. Basically, any suggestions? Thanks in advance! Dan |
| tui06-05-07, 10:52 PM | Quick question: what's the feat whose prerequisite is quick draw that lets your first attack treat the opponents as if they were flat footed? Flick of the Wrist from Races of the Wild. For future reference, check out the Therran Feat Listing (http://www.devinweb.com/featlisting.htm); it's a really handy reference... it's made for a homebrew world and has some slight variations from the actual sources, but it is a fabulous place to start when it comes to finding feats. |
| Zaver06-05-07, 10:56 PM | Also in Complete Warrior, needs dex seventeen and five ranks in sleight of hand as well as quickdraw. |
| Kouk06-05-07, 11:06 PM | I believe there is also a skill trick that does something similar in Complete Scoundrel. The PHB is quite important, especially if you use spells. Any of those others are good, but who are you buying them for, they have different things in them. OA is actually built for version 3.0, but you can download Dragon Magazine 315 for an update to 3.5 from Paizo's site. |
| Zaver06-05-07, 11:10 PM | In regards to your edit, if you have a library get books from them before you buy them. That way you don't spend money on a book that only has one thing you actually think is worth while. |

Player's Handbook is obviously essential. The other three form a kind of "D&D 3.75 Edition." Tome Of Battle transforms the melee combat rules into something that is actualy exciting, instead of "I full attack. I full attack. I full attack." It gives melee types options, forces them to think tacticaly, gives them something different to do each round, and (perhaps best of all) meshes into standard 3.5 perfectly without making the barbarian, palladin, monk, or ranger useless. Complete Scoundrel does a similar things for skills. Skill Tricks are abilities that can be bought with skill points, which expand what you can use a skill for. They also force you to think tacticaly, and encourage you to try something new each round. It makes advancing in a skill more than just getting bigger numbers. The Expanded Psionics Handbook is the natural 20 to the 3rd Edition Psionic's Handbook's natural 1. Gone is the multiple-ability-dependancy; psions now use Int for all their powers. Gone are the non-scalling powers; now you can spend a number of power points up to your manifester level to enhance a power. Gone are the power-point-fueled feats; a new "focus" mechanic lets you use psionic feats so long as you're in a special state of mind, and certain powerful feats force you to leave it to use them. It's well balanced and feels very natural (as compared to the psuedo-scientist wizards in The Player's Handbook). Perhaps best of all, the psionics rules are available free online in the System Reference Document. (http://systemreferencedocuments.org/35/sovelior_sage/psionic.html) |
| Peregrine_Wolf06-06-07, 07:31 AM | It is Flick of the Wrist Books to get, I'd say TOB, Races of <Wild, Stone etc.>, Complete Adventurer, Complete <any>. The PHB, XPH, and Epic stuff and DMG are all there in the SRD. TOB is not a book I own, but I have looked at it, and it makes for some interesting gameplay. Myself, I like the Desert Wind style Swordsage....but there is something in there for ALL martial styles of fighting. Races of the Wild is one of the books I have and I find it to be quite necessary for almost any mobile build out there...but any Reaces of whatever is good, depending on your style of play. Complete Adventurer is very good for combining different ideas from core classes and giving them a twist or a new spin. If you get any other "Complete" book, and combine it with the three previously mentioned books, you will have a VERY efficient character at whatever you plan on doing. Anyways, have fun with your characters :D |
| danzibr06-07-07, 12:01 PM | Wow, thanks everyone! I had planned on going fighter/wizard/EK, based off of the protagonist of my story, but now I think I'm going to go rogue. Haven't decided race. Anyways, I was going to say... so I can't get Quick Draw until lvl 3, right? Then if I start with 16 Dex, I'll get it to 17 at lvl 4, then at lvl 6 I can get Flick of the Wrist. Does anyone know of a quicker way to get Flick of the Wrist? And thanks again for the help. Dan |
| Kouk06-07-07, 02:16 PM | You can get Quick Draw at level 1, if your first level is Fighter. If you start wizard, then take level 2 as fighter, you can take it at level 2 by using the fighter bonus feat. If you start with 2 levels of wizard then you can't take it until level 3. |
| danzibr06-07-07, 03:37 PM | I thought because it had BAB +1 as a prereq you couldn't take it until lvl 2. Like, the first thing you get when you lvl is your feats, so... yeah. Maybe I'm wrong, though. Dan |
