This question has probably been asked a million times, but somehow I can't convince the board search to find the answer. So here we go:

The rules FAQ says that you can fulfill feat prerequisites with a magic item (the example is a strength belt used for taking power attack). But what else can be used? A Druid's wild shape? The bull's strength spell? Must it be something you own or did yourself or could it also be a buff from someone else or a lended item? Please enlighten me!

Anything that actually grants the pre-req'ed thing.

For example, the spell Heroics which actually grants you the feat, could qualify you for something.

Similarly, Bull Strength will qualify you for anything with a strength requirement.

But a magic item that grants a +1 dodge bonus to AC against everyone will not let you take the Mobility feat. The magic item does grant the feat, only something similar (but better) to the feat.

The problem is that you are only qualified WHILE those things are working.

It won't help you when the thing goes away.

-------------

Note it is generally believed that the reasoning behind this was the Wizard's Familiar.

It grants the feat Alertness but only when the familiar is near. Severl PrC's and other feats use Alertness as a pre-req and it was thought that the Wizard should not have to take the feat if they already have a familiar.

Tarkin is correct. Most spellcasters can qualify for almost any feat out there, since their spells can usually grant them the prerequisites. The problem, as stated, is that if you lose the prerequisites for a feat, you lose access to the feat until the prerequisites are regained.
