| demetri0us06-13-07, 04:53 PM | Ok, So I know about Toughness - (+3 hit points, you can take it more than once)... ...But a player of mine is trying to convince me that there is a feat that allows you additional hit points every level... I keep telling him that such a feat would be totally busted, and that such a feat couldn't exist even in the worst splat book. But, he seems to think it exists somewhere... ...anyone able to cooroberate his claim? Thanks! |
| tarkin06-13-07, 04:59 PM | It does exist, but it is +1 per level, not +3/level. As such, it is not overpowered. Called Improved Toughness. From Complete Warrior, among other things. It stacks with toughness. |
| demetri0us06-13-07, 05:06 PM | Ah... +1 is a bit more like it! |
| JadeSpider964306-13-07, 05:54 PM | and of course it's retroactive. so if you take it at lvl 18, you get +17hp for your first 17 levels, and one extra added to whatever you get from your lvl 18 hit dice + con bonus. |
| Phantomcrossing06-13-07, 06:55 PM | In fact, it is a more effective feat than Toughness as it is the feat that keeps on giving. Eventually it even eclipses the feat Epic Toughness [Epic] which grants you +30 hit points as a one time deal much like normal Toughness's +3. Note to self...play an epic level fighter with nothing but Improved Toughness....... |
| Particle_Man06-13-07, 06:56 PM | However, Improved Toughness can only be taken by a character once. Toughness can be taken multiple times. Another feat that technically gives you temporary hit points is Stone Power in Bo9S. |
| InkBlot06-13-07, 09:54 PM | Stone Power doesn't just technically give you temporary HP. It actually gives you temporary HP. The way it works is, you subtract up to 5 from your BAB. You get temp HPs equal to twice the number you took from your BAB, and they last until your next turn. You have to attack or initiate a Stone Dragon strike in order to use the feat. So as long as you keep swinging, you can ignore up to 10 points of damage each round (and take a -5 to hit). |

You need to be psionic to get it though. Improved Tough: as Tarkin mentioned Toughness: the weak feat that is okay at low levels I can't think of anymore. |
| InkBlot06-13-07, 10:10 PM | I guess you could count Hidden Talent (Vigor). That would give you two power points and the power of vigor, which costs one power point to use and gives +5 temp HP per power point, but which you can only spend one power point at a time on. So you'd essential have the power to give yourself 5 temporary hitpoints 2/day, for one minute each time. edit: Hidden Talent is a variant of Wild Talent intended for high-psionics games. It's on page 67 of the Expanded Psionics Handbook, but isn't in the SRD. |

| BuffaloGM06-13-07, 10:27 PM | I believe there is also a feat out of the Faerun books that, in addition to allowing a Wizard to use his Int modifier instead of his con modifier to determine hitpoints at first level, grants +1 HP for each metamagic feat they possess. |
| runestar06-14-07, 12:10 AM | I believe there is also a feat out of the Faerun books that, in addition to allowing a Wizard to use his Int modifier instead of his con modifier to determine hitpoints at first level, grants +1 HP for each metamagic feat they possess. That would be the mind over body feat. There is also a regional feat which gives you +5 hp. Improved toughness is also printed in the MM3. Wasn't there a tree of feats called dragon toughness or something which granted a lot of hp as well? |
| Nom06-14-07, 01:10 AM | The XPH has a feat that grants 2 hp per psionic feat possessed. |
| Lucas Blackstone06-14-07, 04:27 AM | In Master of the Wild I believe, there was a feat line that started with Dwarf's Toughness, then Giant's Toughness, and finally Dragon's Toughness. I don't know off the top of my head if in 3.5 they are officially changed to Improved Toughness or not. Dwarf's Toughness Req was BAB 5 I think. And it granted 6 hp. Giant's Toughness Req was BAB 9 I think and granted 9hp. Dragon's Toughness Req was BAB 11 or 12 and granted 11 or 12 hp. You could take them multiple times and they were on the fighter's list of bonus feats. If they were changed I don't think they really needed to be. I don't see anything overpowering with them. |
| Polop06-14-07, 05:00 AM | Dwarf's, giant's, and dragon's toughness were all replaced with improved toughness. Also there is a feat in lord of madness that gives you +2 hp per abberant feat you have. |
