Hello everybody! Today's experiment is to see if I(we) can subsume the nigh-useless [i]Goad[\i] feat in the Complete Adventurer by replacing it with something akin to the Knight's [i]Test of Mettle[\i] ability.

My initial idea is as follows:

[b]Goad[\b]
Prerequisites: Cha 15, BAB +4
Benfit: Same as Test of Mettle except as noted:
-radius of effect becomes 5 ft./level instead of 100 ft.
-usable 1+Cha modifier (minimum 1) times/day instead of using knight's challenges
-lasts for 1+Cha (min. 1) rounds
-no additional uses if you fall in combat from using this

So, this functions as a slightly weaker Test of Mettle in that it can be used fewer times each day, has a smaller radius of effect (until level 20), and lasts for fewer rounds. Allows paladins, crusaders and Cha-based fighters (as few as those are) to actually fulfill the tanking role. And this fits exceptionally well, I think, with OneWinged4ngel's Rebalanced Paladin.

What does everyone think about this?

i would have to say keep it 5 or 10 ft. 99% of feats don't increase in power as you level, thats why you have "improved" or "greater" versions of the feats. other than that

While that is true, the fact that feats do not increase in power is a point of irritation for myself (and many others on these boards).

That said, if I were going to choose a flat radius for this to effect it'd probably be 20, 30, 50 or 60 ft. since 5 or 10 is just not going to hit much of anything. What about this?

yeah, 30 would work
