| Rymosrac09-13-07, 10:16 AM | Hmm. . .Spring Attack tells me you're building a melee ninja. Personally, I have better luck with ranged ninjas, especially using shot on the run, but it's your preference. What books are allowed, and what kinds of tactics do you plan on using? |
| RobbyPants09-13-07, 10:27 AM | Actually, Spring Attack works wonderfully with Ghost Step, as you can become invisible, move in, hit, and move out, all while invisible. If you end your turn more than five feet out of your opponent's reach, he cannot full attack you. And besides, he still has to find you! Anyway, you're looking for two more feats. Here are a few suggestions: Improved Initiative - Getting to go first helps. If you go before your opponents, they're flat-footed, thus denied their Dex bonus to AC so you can Sudden Strike them. Weapon Focus - Face it: you only have a 3/4 BAB advancement. +1 to hit could be very nice. Weapon Finesse - How much higher is your Dex mod compared to your Str mod? If the answer is +2 or higher, this is a great feat. I know there are a lot of other good ones out there, but I'm drawing a blank right now. Another option (a bit of an investment) is to take Two Weapon Fighting, and later (9th level) Improved TWF. You already have 3/5 the feats necessary to qualify for the Tempest PrC. A few levels in, you gain the ability to attack with both of your weapons on a Spring Attack. If your opponent is denied his Dex mod to hit, then both of these will be Sudden Attacks. To be honnest, I don't know if this is the best way to achieve something like this. I know that TWF rogues can be quite deadly, but a lot of that is due to them being able to Sneak Attack while flanking. Ninjas don't have that luxury. So you probably won't get the same milage out of TWF that a rogue could anyway. |

| Rymosrac09-13-07, 11:18 AM | Yes, spring attack works well, but shot on the run works better. 1. Hide behind something that grants total cover. 2. Ghost Step. 3. Move from cover, make ranged attack at flat-footed enemy within 30'. 4. Move back into total cover, preferably in a different spot from where you started. 5. Rinse and repeat. This keeps you totally unseen until you run out of ki. |

Ah yes, I knew I was fogetting something! Those will work great combined with Ghost Step! Yes, spring attack works well, but shot on the run works better. 1. What prevents you from doing the exact same thing with Spring Attack? Also, as foxtail pointed out, Bounding Assault and Rapid Blitz from PH2 will get you two or three attacks with Spring Attack, something I don't think is possible for Shot on the Run. About all you gain is about 30 feet of range. |
