| Hideous Phidias06-18-07, 09:57 PM | I need a little help, I need a feat for my spellthief character to get proficiency with the daggerwhip at first level. I know may of you are thinking exotic weapon proficiency but you need a +1 base attack bonus for it I don't get it until third with the build I want to go with. I would also love to hear about any other feats that go good with the whip or daggerwhip. |
| Kouk06-18-07, 10:29 PM | If you use the dagger whip from the Arms and Equipment Guide, you need Whip proficiency, which is an Exotic Weapon anyway. I heard that it was reprinted in a Dragon Magazine, but I can't imagine it being anything less than an Exotic Weapon. The only class (I know of) that starts with Whip proficiency for free is the Bard. |
| BroadStreetBully06-19-07, 01:17 AM | yeah, i'd ask your DM if you can hold off taking your level 1 feat until level 2. that way you can still use your weapon (albeit at the standard -4 for nonproficiency), and when you hit level 2 you'll have the +1 BAB for ex. weap. proficiency (daggerwhip). DM's are generally decent people, he might even let you take the feat at level 1 if you ask him about it. |

| RikuKupo06-19-07, 12:31 PM | I vaguely remember a rule that says that you can TAKE a feat even if you don't meet the requirements, but you can't USE it until you do. I think it was an ask wizards question about TWF and gloves of dex. |

I'm recommending this guy ask his DM about it, because last i checked, what the DM says goes. granted, a good DM should have a solid grasp of the rules, make creative plots, have a good time, make it enjoyable for the players, and be fair. |

I think it was an ask wizards question about TWF and gloves of dex. Yes, but when the requirement is a certain ability score, it is actually doable. The item can get you the proper stats and you can use the feat as long as you use that item (or another) which is keeping your stat at the minimum. Exotic Weapon Proficiency requires BAB +1, which can't really be mimicked with an item. |
| jaelis06-19-07, 01:30 PM | I think there's a magical enhancement (skillful?) that makes the wielder automatically proficient. So then you just need to figure out a way to come up with 8000 gp :) |

| maskimus06-19-07, 03:18 PM | Take a level of Bard. They get proficiency with Whip, and thus Whip-Dagger. |
