| Zereth07-31-07, 02:20 AM | Warp Cleave Prerequisites: BAB +16 Str 13, Dex 19, Power Attack, Cleave, Great Cleave, Dodge, Mobility, Spring Attack Description: You have trained endlessly on precision movement, avoiding enemy attacks, and felling multiple enemies consecutively. Benefit: After you kill an enemy with a power attack, you may move next to any enemy within 20 feet of the outermost square(s) you occupy instantly (total movement not to exceed your maximum base speed for the movement type being used, i.e. land, flight, swim, climb) and execute a Cleave attempt using the same bonuses as the original Power Attack. The enemy you just moved next to is flat-footed against this attack unless it has an ability which prevents it from being flat-footed. If the attack succeeds in dropping the foe, you may repeat the process. Failing to drop a foe with one blow ends your turn as with Cleave, but otherwise has no limit to the number of times you may move and attack. Special: A fighter may choose Warp Cleave as one of his fighter bonus feats. Can only be performed in medium armor with weightless and grace magical enhancements, light, or no armor. I was inspired to develop this feat after playing Magna Carta: Tears of Blood and watching the opening movie in which Calintz takes out all the enemies in the room with one hit each. Any suggestions on making this balanced are very welcome. |
| Rehenrok07-31-07, 02:49 AM | Once you fail your Cleave or Great Cleave attempt, where do you end your movement, in the square you failed the attack in or... something else? Just asking.. |
| Zereth07-31-07, 03:02 AM | If you fail a cleave attempt, you end your turn in the square you teleported to, right beside the enemy you just attacked and failed to kill. Also, enemies that you teleport to lose their dexterity bonus to AC. You would probably be surpised if someone kills your friend one moment and is in your face the next (literally). |
| Rehenrok07-31-07, 03:27 AM | Do you think that the person who you just teleported infront of would get an AoO just due to their general surprise.......AHHHAHAH as my sword goes flailing around. Cool feat but could be overpowered, plus what if I am a huge creature and I am the 20 feet? Just some more thoughts... |
| Zereth07-31-07, 04:12 PM | hmmm, good point, let me edit it real quick, any enemies within 20 of you, so if you are creature that takes up 4x4 area it would be 20 feet from the outermost squares you occupy for the AoO, they way I imagine the attack happening is that you are striking almost as soon as you finish the teleport, it isn't like the teleport spell/psionic power/etc... it is more along the lines that you move faster than the eye can see, so during the 'teleport' you are actually moving and commencing the attack and by the time you reach the enemy you roll to see if your aim was good enough and you hit them or not because you are simply following through with your previous motion, which the enemy couldn't see. and the only way you can get an AoO on someone as they attack is, i believe, if you see and know what they are doing. it follows the question "can i get an AoO on an invisible enemy if i know they are there?" the enemy can't see you until you are bringing the weapon down on them. but I don't know, do think a decent (as this is a higher level feat) reflex save would allow them to act quickly enough to attempt and AoO with a penalty to attack as it would just be flailing your weapon at them. |
| tyrecian07-31-07, 04:43 PM | simply make the opponent flat-footed as well (since you are already taking AC away) that way they cannot make an AoO, unless they have special abilities that keep them from being flat-footed. This way there might be someone who could lash out at you, but mostly you would provoke nada. I would also make int 13 a pre-req since you are using some kind of warping ability, and that is pretty weird. Is it magic? does it function in non magic auras? 13 int makes it that much harder to get, but +16 BA is pretty high and by that point you could have this int no prob. It would be more flavorful, just my 2cp |
| Llathos07-31-07, 04:45 PM | It almost feels more like a spell or maneuver from Tome of Battle than a general feat. Good flavor for a gish build. Balance could be somewhat out of whack though. Too tired to dig into it right now, I'll come back. |
| Zereth07-31-07, 09:02 PM | an int pre-req....i can understand your thinking, but the 'teleporting' i mentioned is the character moving so quickly that they 'appear' to teleport when they are actually covering the distance faster than the eye can follow. feat edited: teleport changed to move it does function in non/anti magic auras and areas because all motions of the feat are purely physical the flat-footed i agree with so i'll change that part so it'll be easier to implement i haven't read the tome of battle, but i did look through the nine swords book. also, what does the 'gish' build refer to? i personally acknowledge that i'm a power gamer by definition in the DMG2, but i try to balance out feats/races/classes i make. |
| Majick07-31-07, 10:51 PM | It sounds okay man, it kinda reminds me of the ability you can get in this mecha/anime game i played way back when on PS2... something-breaker... i think... Anyway! Considering the very high BaB prereq and the fact that Cleave at higher levels really only works against multiple (weaker) foes, then it's not necassarily all that bad for balance... i mean, this is essentially just another fighter feat that adds in a slightly different way to the spring attack chain (different approach) Hard to say whether it's worth the amount of feats though... kinda makes me think it would be awesome for a rogue or scout build if you wanted to spend, like, ALL your feats on it (moving 20ft is good for scouts and flat-footed is good for rogues) |
| Rehenrok08-01-07, 12:48 AM | Since you are, from what I understand, saying that the person is moving so fast that they just 'appear' you should either make the Dex pre-requisite higher or force them to have a base land speed greater than 30. AHAHAH.... Try making it you can attack any person within the 20 feet but you can only move to your speed. So you can't just rush arround forever... this is just a thought though. OHHH... What if you 'teleport' to two adjacent enemies. Would you still have to move after you killed the one or could you just cleave. If you had to move you could use what I descibed above but after each enemy you must move 5 feet. As if all that were not enough... and what if I'm in the air with flying or something like that; would it be a 20 foot cube that I can attack. Try tinkering with some of those ideas. |
| bernardofbbraga08-01-07, 01:06 AM | see, I get the idea you're trying to do with the flatfooted measure but a rogue would largely benefit from that using sneak attacks.. Maybe you should limit this movement to the character's total movement in the turn... Or else you would could find yourself in a situation where you could move faster in battle then while running (think of a horde of kobolds, you'd kill them all in one turn and walk as much as the battle field). I personally think that such a agile movement should ask for a higher dex value, such as 19 (as "quicker than eye" feat use to have), and the use of light armor. I haven't seem the movie you saw, maybe it's not what you want, but it seems silly to me for a guy with full plate to be so quick... Perhaps the actual movement reduction on the heavy armors should account for that, if you use the movement limitation.. As an alternative for the flatfooted, you could do something like this: "After delivering the killing blow, he does not hesitate before attacking a nearby enemy, who is surprised by his fast movements. Any enemy (who does not have the Combat Reflexes feat) should take a DC (don't know how much) reflex save or be denied of his attack of opportunity while the Warp Cleaver moves through his threat area." how's that? I like the feat btw, sounds very heroic |
| Zereth08-02-07, 02:40 AM | this is great, i'm getting some excellent suggestions for this. as for the video, here is where it is at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_G0V9BqyBko the fight sequence i'm talking about is in about the last 30 second of the movie if you enemies are adjacent, you must move at least 5 feet before you can attack the adjacent enemy as for when flying/swimming or anything else in which you can move in you can move in three dimensions, the range would be any opponent within a 20 foot radius of you, the square(s) you occupy is the center point, so 20 feet from that square(s) again, thanks for all the suggestions. |
