For example, a good cleric cannot cast evil spells." (PHB, Pg 33) If a spell with the evil descriptor is modified by a feat (such as Purify Spell, Book of Exalted Deeds, Page 44-45) to gain the good descriptor, what happens? Is it: A. The Good descriptor and Evil descriptor cancel out, making the spell without any alignment descriptors? B. The spell is BOTH good AND evil? C. Something else? And, if the spell is BOTH good and evil, can a good cleric cast such a spell? I am keen to hear what you, as a player and DM, think is fairest. C. |

As long as the spell retains the evil descriptor, then your good cleric couldn't cast it. Also, considering the source, an exalted-type character probably wouldn't be interested in using an evil-aligned spell at all, even if they could modify it to not contain the evil descriptor. |
