| stoneshape06-24-07, 11:26 PM | Hi, How many skill points is a feat worth? I'm thinking 4. |
| Elemmakil06-25-07, 02:25 AM | Open Mind (XPH, SRD) gives 5 skill points. Personally, I think that all feat->skill feats are weak, but I don't really have a problem with that. It just means that bonus feats can't replace good class skills/skills per level, which is just fine by me. -Elemmakil |
| sleepydeath06-25-07, 02:25 AM | the feat open minded gives you 5 skill points, its in the SRD (psionic feats) |
| Ralp06-25-07, 07:22 AM | If you go by the Feature Point system, an average feat = 5 ranks in an average skill = 5 hit points. That's a pretty good rule of thumb, but it kind of depends which feat and which skill, and even to whom. A smart human rogue might be willing to trade a dozen skill points for a feat, but for a fighter trying to qualify for a prestige class, skill points are tough to come by. Why do you want to know? That is, if your question wasn't "Is there a feat that just gives some skill points?" (which has already been answered :)) then fill us in and someone might be able to lend some more specific help. |
| InkBlot06-25-07, 12:40 PM | the feat open minded gives you 5 skill points, its in the SRD (psionic feats) Just to clarify, Open Minded is not a psionic feat. It is a general feat. Open Minded can be found in Complete Adventurer, as well as the Expanded Psionics Handbook and the System Reference Document. |
| Lina_Inverse06-25-07, 02:51 PM | If you go by the Feature Point system, an average feat = 5 ranks in an average skill = 5 hit points. Improved toughness says 1 hp/level = 1 feat Which is much closer than 5 hitpoints. I would not trade a feat for +5 hp at lvl20. |
| Father Dale06-26-07, 08:02 AM | Yeah, 5 skill points, per Open-minded. Note that open minded only gives you skill points. Your application of those is subject to all the normal limitations on skill point use, i.e. the cost of cross-class skills being 2 skill points, and the maximum ranks allowed in any skill. The benefit of the skill feats (either the +3 to one skill or the +2 to two) is that it is not limited by max ranks or the cost of cross class skills. So if you are wanting to boost a skill you already have maxed out, then the skill feats are best (i.e. an improved feinting rogue taking skill focus Bluff.) If you just want more skill points to boost some skills or round out some class skills, then open minded is best. (i.e. a low-Int cleric needing to get some skill points into Knowledge Relgion so as to qualify for a PRC.) |
