| muddak05-27-07, 03:15 PM | If I can choose a feat as a bonus feat at, say level 6 (ex: monk can choose "Improved trip" at lvl6) but I do not choose it a lvl6, can I take this feat at a later level (ex: lvl9 bonus feat)?? the way I see it is at lvl6 I am skilled enough to take this feat, so at later levels I chould still be skilled enough to take the feat... am I right? |
| Alric05-27-07, 03:38 PM | You can but you need all the normal prerequisites to get the feat. Monks don't get any bonus feats after level 6, so if you fail to pick the feat at that time you will have to gain it the normal way. See the bonus feats are more like, specializing in a given area. You can picked, do I want to specialize in disarming people or tripping them? If you decide to specialize and take disarm, your not any better at tripping than anyone else. Which means you need to get all the requirements to learn the skill just like anyone else. |
| muddak05-27-07, 03:46 PM | Monks don't get any bonus feats after level 6, so if you fail to pick the feat at that time you will have to gain it the normal way. ok so since I don't meet the requisites of intelligence, I would not be able to take the feat later... I get it... thanks.. :) |
| Peregrine_Wolf05-27-07, 05:40 PM | W8 a sec....if it's a Monk bonus feat, you don't have to have the prereqs for it. Just being high enough Monk level meets the prereqs. But, other than that, you can't skip feats at levels where you would genereally get them, such as levels 1, 3, 6, 9, 12, etc... |

But, other than that, you can't skip feats at levels where you would genereally get them, such as levels 1, 3, 6, 9, 12, etc... ok so here's how it is: I have a 5th lvl monk. I already have improved grapple at lvl6 I can take improved trip as a bonus feat but I'll take "improved natural attack" instead. Then, at next lvl, I'll start a prestige shintao monk and I get a bonus feat... can I take improved trip then? or can I take it at normal monk lvl9 where I would get to choose a feat? |
| Peregrine_Wolf05-27-07, 06:04 PM | At level 6, if all you've taken is Monk, and you have no LA or anything, then you should get your Monk bonus feat AND your feat for reaching level 6... |
| Frugal05-27-07, 07:34 PM | You only get to take it as a bonus feat when the class says you can. If it's taken as a regular feat at another time then you have to meet the prerequisites. If you take another class that grants a bonus feat, you're stuck with the list of bonus feats for that class. |
| risner05-27-07, 07:47 PM | can I take this feat at a later level (ex: lvl9 bonus feat)?? No, Monk bonus feats are a choice, you get to pick of two choices. If you pick one, you do not get to pick from three choices at the next level. |
| strenoth05-27-07, 11:41 PM | I tyhink the misunderstandign here is that he doesn't realise the monk feats are EXTRA feats. so at 6th level, you get the monk bonus feat (so pick up improved trip), and use yrou 6th level feat to get improved natural attack(unarmed) |
| muddak05-28-07, 12:02 AM | ok, to clarify... :) at 6th I get my normal feat (every 3 levels) so I choose "weapon finesse (unarmed)" AND I get a bonus feat from the monks feat table (table 3-10 in the book. this feat is my last bonus feat, after 6th level I don't get bonus feats anymore.. ) and this one, I would choose "improved natural attack (unarmed)"... then at 9th level, I would choose "improved trip" as my normal feat that I would choose every 3 lvls now, what I understand is that if I want to choose "improved trip" at 9th, I would have to have all the pre-requisites to acquire this feat... am I getting this ok or am I just realy messed up in the head??... my logic though, would tell me that if I could acquire improved trip at 6th lvl, I should be able to acquire it at 9th lvl (as per every 3rd lvl like normal feats) since I past 6th lvl... woa.. this is getting me dizzy.. :P |
| Peregrine_Wolf05-28-07, 12:05 AM | Everything is correct except for the weapon finesse part that feat works for ALL applicable weapons once you take it...not jsut ONE weapon. they changed that from 3.0 to 3.5 have fun with your Monk btw... |
| strenoth05-28-07, 12:44 AM | the bonus feat has to be from the availabel 6th level feats. the available 6th level bonus feats are improved trip and improved disarm. Improved natural attack is NOT available as a bonus feat for a 6th level monk. So the point should be moot anyway if, at 9th level, you want to use your normal feat to get something that was potentially available to you as a bonus feat, you have to meet all prerequisites normally, even if the bonus feat selection would have let you ignore them. This is because the bonus feat is a special, one-time deal. Normal feats don't get the deal. |
| risner05-28-07, 02:02 AM | AND I get a bonus feat from the monks feat table and this one, I would choose "improved natural attack (unarmed)"... Ok, got it. Except, bzzt, wrong answer. You can not choose Improved Natural Attack at 6th level monk. You can choose only Improved Disarm or Improved Trip. That is it. You can't pick Stunning Fist, Endurance, or any other feat. |
