I've been playing an arcane trickster for a little while now, and being a rogue/wizard he tends to attack or cast spells. So, it's kind of annoying to go melee and get hit by attacks of opportunity while casting.

I know I can cast defensively, but I was thinking of putting my feint/improved feint to good use. I was wondering if it seems logical that if I can feint to have an enemy drop their guard enough to be flat-footed, then I would be able to feint and cast a spell without them taking full advantage of it. I mean, they are not truly focused on me now, so they might not get attacks of opportunity

I was going to pitch this to my DM, but does it make any kind of sense to you guys?

Feinting doesn't make an enemy flat-footed. It simply denies them their Dex bonus to AC against your next melee attack. So, by RAW, it won't help you in spellcasting; your opponent is free to smack you with the AoO when appropriate.

Personally, I think it would be reasonable to create a feat that allows a feint in place of a Concentration check.

Ok, so I was misunderstanding that skill usage for a while. Well, then it wouldn't make much sense. But I do like your feat idea.

There is a skill trick in Complete ... Scoundrel, I think, otherwise Adventurer.
Let's you make a Sleight of Hand check versus Spot, to disguise your spellcasting and not provoke an AoO.

Or you could do what everyone does and pour your skill points into Concentration. Rolling a DC 15 becomes a non-issue pretty quickly.
