Fire themed Wizard. [Archive] - Wizards Community

03-17-08, 07:34 AM So, I'm playing in a Forgotten Realms campaign and I'm a fire themed Evoker 3 / Master Specialist 3. I just hit my sixth level and I'm trying to figure out what feat to take. I have Bloodline of Fire from Players Guide to Faerun, Spell Focus (Evocation), Fiery Burst (CM) and am looking to get Energy Substitution and eventually Energy Admixture.

Energy Substitution requires another metamagic feat and I'm trying to figure out which one I want to take. I was leaning towards either Fiery Spell, which adds +1 damage for each dice rolled, or Searing Spell, which causes half damage to targets immune to fire damage and double damage to creatures with the cold subtype. Both take up one spell slot higher.

Now, my DM said he would allow some feat re-training if I was able to make a suitable argument as to why. If anyone has any suggestions as to what feat I could take, or how to reshape my feats to help me out, I'd be very appreciative of the advice.

03-17-08, 10:51 AM Have you looked at the "Pyro" feat? It adds +1 damage to all fire damage dice rolled and makes putting fires you cause harder to put out...

03-17-08, 12:08 PM What about Explosive Spell from Complete Arcana? It adds a tactical edge to your damage spells.

03-17-08, 01:36 PM Fiery Burst is the Reserve feat, right?

Try having a look at Fire Devotion(I think its called that) from Complete Champion. If you want to make it a little better(not mandatory) take a level dip into Cleric.

03-19-08, 07:27 PM The Fire Bloodline feat from Dragon Compendium gives you a free fire related spell at each spell level.

03-19-08, 08:09 PM Whoa, I was in a party with a fire mage, in Forgotten Realms. He went evoker/elemental savant/archmage. As an archmage he got shape spell and energy substitution. He also picked up the metamagic feats empower and energy admixture. He had all kinds of tweaked scorching rays/fireballs. Quite the blaster. Also took a fire mephit for his familiar and had knowledge(planes) through the roof.

03-19-08, 08:09 PM I'd advise going with a 20/41/0 Fire spec. Pretty solid DPS.
