| kjamma406-11-07, 11:36 AM | 1) Is there a feat that will allow you to flank an opponent with a ranged attack? 2) If the answer to #2 is no, is there another way to do it? 3) Can you use feint/improved feint with a ranged attack? |
| Hsien06-11-07, 01:35 PM | 1: None that I know of 2: Ranger Alternate 4th lvl ability; PH II Lose animal companion, to provide flank when range attack is successful. Flank is only provided until next ally attacks mob though, but you can spread shots out against multiple mobs to provide multiple flanks. 3: ( edited ) I thought so but since I don't use it I'll take Obi-Wan's word below on it |

| kjamma406-11-07, 06:13 PM | 3.2 no. feint is with a MELEE weapon only- reread the skill description for this....... I'm looking at an online SRD and it does not show feint as a skill, rather it is a special attack (and Improved Feint is a feat). Can you provide a page reference in the PHB? Thanks for the response. |

| Lucas Blackstone06-11-07, 10:45 PM | If you are using any of the 3.0 books still, Peerless Archer has a class ability at 8th level called Threaten. This ability allows you to treat your bow as a melee weapon with a 10 foot reach for purposes of threatening squares. Therefore if positioned correctly you should be able to flank with someone while using your bow. Arrow Mind ( Spell Compendium) could also work depending on how you read the flanking rules. |
| tarkin06-12-07, 11:01 AM | Lucas, you are wrong about what Peerless Archers ability does. To Flank there are two requirements. 1. Someone OPPOSITE from you threatens them. 2. You have a melee weapon. Not it does not have to threaten. Whips don't threaten, so you can do this: wEt w = whip guy E = enemey, t = someone with a weapon that threatens The w is flanking. He gets +2 to hit and can sneak attack if he is a rogue. The t is NOT flanking. While yes he helps w to flank, w does not threaten, so he is NOT flanking. The Peerless Archer ability only lets you threaten. It does not make your weapon count as a melee weapon for purposes of flanking. This means you can help your buddies flank, but can't do it yourself |
| Obi-Wan Shinobi06-12-07, 04:58 PM | i think u got that a bit backwards there, dont ya tarkin??? w gets flanking due to t having a weapon that threatens. t does NOT get flanking due to w having a weapon that doesnt threaten. edit: never mind- you are correct. it just took me a few reads to understand it. i think my description is a bit easier to understand......... |
| Lucas Blackstone06-12-07, 05:39 PM | What the flanking section says is to get the flanking bonus of +2 to hit, you need to make a melee attack. Then the example goes on to show that two people are flanking if they a) threaten, and b) have a person oppisite the target that threatens. Threaten says you threaten nearby areas with your bow as if you had a melee weapon. So even if one agrees that you need a melee weapon, you are acting as though you threaten the area with a melee weapon. Once you threaten the area with a melee weapon, and the other flanker does also, the target is flanked by both people. |
| madbliza06-12-07, 06:30 PM | The Whisperknife Prestige class allows you to flank from a range. However, you may not want to be a halfling. |
