I saw a thread on here about buying off a flaw. How does that work? I started using the flaws but I dont how they work other then you getting a bonus feat for taking one. Thank You.

Take up to 2 flaws at the beginning of the game (at character creation). You may select one additional bonus feat for each selected flaw.

Maybe it's not an official rule, but if a player wants to buy-off a flaw they took at character creation (and the DM is cool with them doing so), then have them expend a character-level feat slot to do. Stands to reason that if taking the flaw gave you an extra character-level feat, then the reverse should be true.

That could work. Maybe also paying Xp for it too, though that would be a real jugdement call.

Any method of buyout that involves them keeping the feat they got for the flaw is the same as "spend X experience for a bonus feat" and should be avoided.

The only balanced way I see to buy out a flaw is to spend (remove) a 1st level feat for the flaw. You must also make sure you have all the pre-reqs for all the remaining feats at each level (from 1st to 20th) without any issues.

Agree on the XP being too cheap of a buy-off for flaws.

But the exchanging a character-level feat, which you only get a few of and have far less restrictions on what you can use them for than class-derived bonus feats, certainly sounds equitable, especially at later levels when you might qualify for some really impressive feats that could only be taken as one of your character-level feat.

And again, that's with the caveat that the DM approves you buying off the flaw, which should require a certain amount of effort on the part of the player.

Maybe you need both, you need to pay XP (maybe 20XP/level is good enough) and also expend a feat slot as well.
