| dman1123503-20-08, 11:40 PM | Holy....what? I'm sorry, I don't speak gibberish. Please use proper grammar and spelling (especially the spelling), maybe then someone can help. Cause right now, I can say "The Shield Other spell grants invisibility and pancakes" and make as much sense. |

Cause right now, I can say "The Shield Other spell grants invisibility and pancakes" and make as much sense. I want pancakes... The only kind of feats that could ever thematically give you a force field are reserve feats or divine feats, and I can say confidantly that there aren't any. Oh, or I guess psionic ones, maybe...but there are none of those either. He probably meant to put this in the d20 future board...I hope...? |
| xcountry03-21-08, 08:59 AM | whats the difference between the too, i just would like to be able to make a defensive pc. |
| dman1123503-21-08, 05:01 PM | two, not too. And there is no feat that grants you a force field. If you were to be more specific (like, a feat that grants a deflection bonus to AC), then it would be a slightly more reasonable request, but out of the domain feats, reserve feats, and psionic feats I can safely say "no freaking way!" as it would be overpowered. |

Well, it's an option rule, but XPH has the Hidden Talent feat that grants a 1st level power and 1 power point to use it with. He could get Inertial Armor or Force Screen or something of that sort with it. |
| xcountry03-21-08, 06:54 PM | i'm sorry for not being spacific I don't know much about the game like i have no clue what an ac is, but i picked up a feat is a type of power like thing it dosn't need to be a force field i was just using that as an example i meant something like a force fieldthat maby at least softens the blows |

You seem to be pretty new to D&D, how much of of it have you read? (Like players handbook, Dungeon masters guide?) Note: if you know the rules well tand just didnt know the abreviastion then ignore the first part. Now to answer your main question: "Shoftening the blows" can be done by two way in D&D, AC and Damage reduction. One reduces the chances of your being hit (AC), but doesnt nothing if you are hit. The other reduces the damage from all attacks you take. High AC AFAIK is generally considered to be superior to DR, but both are usefull. Roll woth it increases your damage reduction (I think) as does armour specialization from PH2. There are lots of feats that increase your AC, some offer small permement increases, the others offer better, but situational benefits, or ones that require you to give up something (like a turn undead attempt for a devine feat). For feats crystalkeep.com is your friend, doesnt have everything, but its got most of them |
| xcountry03-21-08, 07:18 PM | truthfully not of the book cause it coasts to much :(( $32 for gam instruction :weep: |
| Prince_of_Parkness03-21-08, 07:26 PM | truthfully not of the book cause it coasts to much :(( $32 for gam instruction :weep: Always a problem when your starting. If you google D&D core STR http://www.opengamingfoundation.org/srd.html for core rules http://www.d20srd.org/ for some variants and crystalkeep.com for races, spells and feats There are plenty others aswell. Id read up on the basic rules (mainly combat). Who are you playing with, because you can ask them for help aswell? |
| Aryxbez03-21-08, 07:36 PM | Well since ye are new, here is a link to the SRD (System Reference Document (http://www.d20srd.org/)). That should help you somewhat to learn the game, otherwise will have to buy the books obviously. Otherwise I would consider getting 4th edition instead, as it's coming in June 6th. As then if you bought 3rd edition, then you would have to buy 4th edition too if you wanted to play 4th edition. Otherwise I assume your group should have the books, if none, otherwise should try and find one. On the forcefield feat, best bet is probably what Salla said. Otherwise Divine feats from several supplements might give a deflection bonus to Armor class=Force field of sorts for ye. EDIT: Prince of Parkness covered everything, my bad |
| xcountry03-21-08, 08:47 PM | don't have a group yet hard as hell to find one :( may get one on sunday though :)) |
| groveborn03-22-08, 07:10 PM | Yeah, I'd like to play a game, but I don't have the game. Shoot. I guess I'll just ask questions about it then. Is there a force field shoe in Barbie's Grand Adventure? [/sarcasm] If you can't buy the book, read the SRD. It's free. There are many groups available online which play by post (it's like these boards, but with games involved). There are many used bookstores which sell used books cheap. I found all three core books for only $40 once. Ebay, Amazon, and such all have people willing to discard their books. There are also "virtual tabletop" software available. Most are free, and there are boards to visit to find games to join. These are often great for when you have nobody locally to play with. I prefer Fantasy Grounds, but a "lite" license (player's license) is around 15 bucks. In addition to the rules, you also need dice. These tend to cost around $5. D&D, like any video game, board game, or anything at all that costs any kind of money, costs money to play (wow, just wow). If you can't afford to play, consider not playing. If you CAN afford to play, please enjoy. These boards help a lot when you need help. |
