Formation Expert question [Archive] - Wizards Community

01-02-08, 05:49 PM Hello everyone, this time i just need some clarification on the wording in the Formation Expert feat in CW. The 2nd maneuver the feat gives says:
Step into the Breach: To use this maneuver you must be withing a single move action of an ally who falls in combat, and an ally must occupy every square between you and the fallen comrade. You can immediately take a single move action (as if you had readied and action to do so) to move into the square that the fallen ally occupies.

So does that mean that an ally MUST occupy every square between you and your ally or that only an ally can be between you and you fallen ally. Meaning that an enemy can't be between you but empty space can.

I just want to be sure that i use it right, thanks to anyone that can help.

01-03-08, 10:15 AM Well I don't have my book in front of me but what you posted says "an ally MUST occupy every space between you and the fallen comrade"

Though if I were your DM I would let the empty/non-threatened space thing fly... but I'm a nice DM. :D

*Non-threatened space means you will not suffer any attacks of oppurtunity on the way to your fallen comrade. IE. if you're in the army and you're in the 2nd or 3rd row and a guy in the front line died you could take his space.

01-03-08, 11:02 AM I think the "ally must" means you must be in a formation to use this ability. IE: You are in a line, column or block of troops. So allies fill all the spaces between you and the fallen ally.

It is Formation Expert after all.

This is what i thought at first too, but i just wanted to be sure because in my party one member will not participate in the formation because he does not use a shield, although he would not move far from the group. I was hoping to be able to also get to him if needed even if there was a space between us so i'll have to talk to my DM.
