| TessarrianDM03-21-07, 07:45 PM | The Frostfell Prodigy feat (Frostfell pg. 48) grants a spellcaster extra bonus spell slots by giving an effective increase to the required ability score of either two or four points (dependent upon temperature). If a spellcaster has multiple classes that use different ability scores (e.g., cleric/wizard), does the effective increase apply to all applicable ability scores? My feeling is that it does, since the feat does not specify "choose a caster class that you have", or say that you may take it multiple times, and each time it applies to a different spellcaster class that you have. Is my interpretation correct? |
| kelvinaw27303-21-07, 08:57 PM | I would be wary of that ... normally feats increase only only one class of spell using or one ability stat at a time. Practised Caster, for example, only increases one class at a time, and Spellcasting Prodigy only increases one ability score. As this feat does the latter, pick which ability score that it increases and stick with it - at least, that's how I would call it if I was your DM. If it increases both of your spell-casting classes, great, but sadly that isn't likely. |
| Frugal03-21-07, 09:50 PM | Without seeing the wording I'd agree that it should only apply to a single ability score at any one time. I could see maybe allowing you to swap it out day to day (when you prep spells) tops, but not to affect to spellcasting scores at the same time. |
| AbyssKnight03-22-07, 12:44 AM | But both Practiced Caster and Spellcasting Prodigy specifically require you to pick one class to apply the feat to. If the feat is worded as the OP says it is, then it would apply to both/all spellcasting stats. |
| TessarrianDM03-22-07, 07:46 AM | Actual wording is as follows: Frostfell Prodigy (General) You gain additional bonus spells in cold regions. Preq: Con 13, Snowcasting, Frozen Magic, Cold Focus. Benefit: In cold areas (temperature below 40 degrees), the ability score used to determine how many bonus spells you may prepare or cast is treated as if it were 2 higher than its actual score. If you enter an area with a warmer temperature and remain in the area for longer than 1 minute, the bonus spells granted by this feat are lost until you can regain them. In areas of extreme cold (below -20 degrees), the ability score is treated as if it were 4 higher than its actual score for purposes of determining how many bonus spells you may prepare or cast. Note that nowhere in the text does it specify that you must choose a spellcasting class or ability score that the feat applies to. |
| Frugal03-22-07, 08:24 AM | Note that nowhere in the text does it specify that you must choose a spellcasting class or ability score that the feat applies to. Right, but also notice that every mention of ability score is in the singular; it only applies to one score. |
