Gaining Perform as a Class Skill [Archive] - Wizards Community

I'm thinking of a character that I would like to play, but it really seems like an unlikely build. What I want is a rogue/beguiler that turns into a cloaked dancer. The issue is that one of the prerequisites is Perform (dance) of 10 ranks. Rogue has this as a class skill, but Beguiler doesn't. Is there any way of adding the perform skill to the class skill list of Beguiler so I don't have to take forever to get to the prestige?

Once you have a skill as a class skill, the Max ranks is always equal to your Level + 3. So even when you take Beguiler levels after taking rogue levels, you can increase Perform just as quickly as before. You just have to spend 2 points on it for each rank.

Oh, really?! I thought that if you didn't have it on your class list it was at the cross-class skill max ranks, even if you had it as a class skill in another class. That's cool, then.

That doesn't make sense at all. It follows one rule for being a class skill and another rule for being cross class? That sounds dubious. Take the last Rogue level you planned to take at 7th and pump all the points for that level into the Perform. There, done.

Whatever you may think of it, it's true.

"Skills

If a skill is a class skill for any of a multiclass character’s classes, then character level determines a skill’s maximum rank. (The maximum rank for a class skill is 3 + character level.)

If a skill is not a class skill for any of a multiclass character’s classes, the maximum rank for that skill is one-half the maximum for a class skill. "

But that's really how it's done. Here's the link

The last line gives you the rule about it.

For the OP, there's a feat in Unearthed Arcana, called Skill Knowledge, that lets you choose 2 class skills from a class you have to become class skill for your current class, or one cross-class skill to be forever a class skill.
