The rules for a Familiar not being replaceable for a year really stand out in the D&D system, and are regarded as excessive by nearly all players (especially when there are feats that make them supposedly combat-ready). I allow Familiars to be dismissed with no trouble, and replaced after a week, and you have to pay the normal costs. |

Regardless, you can only have one familiar, just like a Druid can only have one animal companion and a paladin can only have one special mount. |

There is a feat - Extra Familiar - its in a d20 book - not sure of posting rules etc... It's in Familiars, Crouching Monkey, Hidden toad (Encyclopedia Arcane) d20 (Mongoose Publishing) Everytime you take the feat you can have an extra familiar (up to a max of your main casting bonus **i.e. CHA for sorcerors, INT for wizards - a sorc with +5 cha mod that took this feat 5 times COULD have 6 familiars :P) |
