| Grizzled Gryphon12-27-07, 02:58 PM | I have a player that can't seem to pick a feat for her character. She asked that I post up her character here and see if you all can help her out some. So, here it is. She is going to try and rely on her breath weapon for combat, with weapon combat as a back up in case that doesn't work. She wants to have her healing and whatnot as good as possible when she gets it, thus the high Cha. And her Con is high for the extra hit points AND because her breath weapons both are based on Con. Race: Dragonborn (was an Elf) Class: Gestalt Dragonfire Adept/Dragon Shaman Level: 1 Abilities: Str 15 Dex 15 Con 16 Int 15 Wiz 15 Cha 16 (Why is it new players ALWAYS roll uber stats in my games??) Racial Traits: (all the ones she picked, anyway) She picked Wings from the Dragonborn options. Dragon Totem is Copper. Bonus Feat: Dragon Touched from Dragonfire Adept. Skills: Haven't picked those yet, but I know that she wants to do the Cha skills. She also will have spot, listen, search, and other useful skills like those. Her Invocation is Endure Exposure Her Auras are Senses, Vigor, and Power. Her next Invocation is going to be Beguiling Influence, and her next Aura is going to be Presence. Feel free to ask any questions about feats. The books available are listed in my Sig. I have houseruled that Extra Invocation works for the Dragonfire Adept as well as the Warlock. At least that is the plan. I need to actually look at the feat, and make sure there aren't any changes needed to make it work for the Dragonfire Adept. Anywho, she is in a quandry about that first feat. She was considering Skill Focus on Diplomacy, but I explained just how much of a steaming pile of a feat that one is, and she is hunting for soemthing else. Thanks for any help!! |

If yes, then the obvious choice based on her stated strategy is Ability Focus (Breath Weapon). Good feats to take down the line include the Metabreath feats from the Draconomicon (I recommned Clinging Breath in particular-the real beauty to the setup your player has is that she will not care if the Dragon Shaman's breath weapon will not recycle for forever, because the DFA's is (ab)usable every round), Frightful Prescence (also the Draconomicon, because making the enemy shaken will reduce their saving throws, making it even harder to resist your breath weapons), and the Flyby Attack and/or Hover feats (because a 15' cone becomes a 15' spread if you are flying). |

Yes, the metabreath feats are a good choice, and so is the frightful presence. But, to the task at hand. Ability focus does look good. I forgot about the MM feats. I will tell her about that one. Thanks!! |
