| styphon04-18-07, 02:56 AM | Okay so about a year ago I made an elf scout for a campaign we're going to be playing to epic levels. I've been loving the class so far but when I picked up a copy of complete scoundrel, I discovered a feat I desperately want-- and can't qualify for! (well, qualify w/out penalty that is) The swift hunter feat looks awesome; I love the idea of being able to do skirmish damage to favored enemies even if they're normally immune. (we fight a lot of undead). But to get the favored enemy prerequisite, I need a level of ranger.... ranger isn't a favored class for elves so I'd be stuck with a 20% xp penalty on a charater I'll probably have till level 30. (I'm level 11 right now) I've found only one PRC with favored enemy as a class feature (that doesn't have a racial requirement other than elf), but it's in BoED and it doesn't give it till second level. (plus I'm neutral and obviously I need to be good aligned for a BoED class) Does anyone have an idea for how I can: 1) Make Ranger or Scout a favored class to avoid the multiclass xp penalty or 2) Find a PrC that an neutral aligned elf can take that gives favored enemy as a class feature? any ideas would be helpful. Thanks! |
| Zappa_Tenderleaf04-18-07, 03:17 AM | you could ofcourse always try asking your DM if he'll allow you to take the feat of favoured enemy next time you gain a bonusfeat, explaining to him what you intend, and why it would fit for your character specificaly (elves and undead, should be 'nuff said, but still). Our DM allowed me to dualclass my monk to monk cleric without losing the ability to advance in monk afterwards, because I gave him a plausible and good explanation as to why I wanted it, and why the character would be a cleric aswell as a monk. this would be the easiest way, and the most likely to succeed. many DM's don't like it when people find holes in the rulings to get something they want and couldn't get normaly. if you ask, it'll be much more appreciated. |
| Baron Rod04-18-07, 04:53 AM | Talk to your DM about expanding the favored classes for race. There are so many new base classes that there should be more than one class per race one could take without an XP penality. In my game if the player comes up with a good backstory I will allow him to take a class without a xp penality. Baron Rod |
| Garonak04-18-07, 04:53 AM | But that requires a reasonable dm, and those are really rare... it is your best chance though... |
| styphon04-18-07, 10:16 PM | My GM is kind of a stickler for the rules when it comes to this sort of thing. That's why I was hoping there was a legal way to do it. |
| Nathreet04-18-07, 10:40 PM | Slayer prestige class (psionic). Requires at least 1 psionic power point and 4 BAB. The wild talent feat makes a non-psionic into a psionic and gives you 2 power points. "Your mind wakes to a previously unrealized talent for psionics" and you qualify for anything that requires you to be a psionic. The slayer prestige class gets favored enemy at 1st level. Full BAB, strong will saves. http://www.d20srd.org/srd/psionic/prestigeClasses/slayer.htm EDIT: d'oh, I just read the slayer description. The favored enemy must be a psionic creature. Sorry. I love the html srd search tool: www.d20srd.org |
| runestar04-18-07, 10:42 PM | I think he would specifically want favoured enemy: undead... Think there is a prc which grants FE: evil somewhere? |
| Flan04-18-07, 10:47 PM | Just get a Truedeath crystal, 10k, Magic Item Compendium and you can hurt undead without wasting a feat. Foe Hunter from Players Guide to Faerun can give you a favoured enemy, but not undead, and you need to be in Faerun. If you're half-human (ever considered polymoph object or wish or the character rebuilding rules from PHBII) you can get Diverse Background to give you another favoured class. Really though, an XP penalty isn't that big a deal. The XP tables are sorta silly and since you'll be down a level you're going to gaining a LOT more XP for encounters than the other people in the party so you'll never fall even a full level behind. |
| Ogg04-19-07, 10:17 AM | Here's what I found from a chart. --- Favoured Enemy Ranger 1 & 5 & 10 & 15 & 20 Deadgrim 2, 5/5, ecl 7 (Magic of Eberron) - undead only Eldeen Ranger 4, ecl 9, Eberron Campaign Setting Corrupt Avenger 1, 4, 7, 10/10, ecl 7, Heroes of Horror - against a specified single creature type, also gain rage like abilility --- One simple thing you can do is you can ask the DM if you can be or change to a wood elf instead of the generic elf. ---- From SRD: Wood Elf Their hair color ranges from yellow to a coppery red, and they are more muscular than other elves. Their clothing is in dark shades of green and earth tones to better blend in with their natural surroundings. Wood Elf Traits (Ex) These traits are in addition to the high elf traits, except where noted. * +2 Strength, -2 Intelligence. * Favored Class: Ranger. This trait replaces the high elf’s favored class. --- |
| RealSorceror04-19-07, 11:43 AM | By any slim chance does your DM allow feats from other d20 system 3.5 games? Favored Enemy is a feat in the DragonMech setting. |
| BugHunter04-20-07, 07:57 AM | Look in Unearthed Arcana on page 100 the sidebar titled "House Rule: Adding a Favored Class". In the case of Elves expanding the favored class to include scout would be a logicly extension. Of course talk to the DM about both options. |
