Hello all. I am a duskblade and want to know the purpose of exotic weapon prof. It really doesn't look like it does too much. So what is the pro and cons of having this particular feat? thank you for all of your help

It gives you access to a weapon that you don't have access to normally. It's that simple.

The "usefulness" will simply depend on the weapon and character build.

I'd wager that the most common application is to take Exotic Weapon Proficiency (Spiked Chain) and build a character around that.

But if you're happy with the weapons you have access to, then there's no need for you to spend a feat on EWP.

Technically speaking, it gives you a +4 to hit with the weapon of your choosing (since, without taking the proficiency, you're at a -4 to hit with exotic weapons).

The most common uses of exotic weapon proficiency are for spiked chain (reach weapon that allows attacks in adjacent squares), bastard sword and dwarven waraxe (1d10 weapon with good crit rate), and double weapons (allows good damage for two-weapon fighters that require only one selection of weapon focus, weapon specialization, improved critical, ect. in order to affect both weapon surfaces).

Generally speaking, exotic weapon proficiencies only effectively allow for an average of 1 damage increase per swing, but are the keystones for character builds designed around those weapons (which can improve exponentially with the right feat selections).
