Would it be balanced to have a feat like Hidden Talent for casters, allowing them to choose a spell from the list of spells for full caster classes, and grants them a virtual spell slot for if they gain a level as a caster of that type?

For example, Tordek takes the feat and learns to cast burning hands. He can cast it once per day, at 1st level caster.
Later on, he gains a level of wizard. Now he gains spells as a 1st level wizard, and also gets a bonus spell slot to cast Burning Hands.

This is going to be for a high magic setting, of course. Any ideas on the balance?

There are feats that grant you 3 spells once per day in complete arcane. You could look them up.

There is a feat that grants you a 2nd level spell.

I think it is called precocious apprentice

If you obtain caster levels enough to cast a 2nd level spell, it becomes an extra spell slot.

Yes Tarkin, I'm well aware of that feat. What I am looking for is a feat that allows 1st level spells, regardless of class. I'll look into using the feats you mentioned, Banatine, but I'm looking for a feat that will let you have just the 1st level spells. Pretty much a Precocious Apprentice feat with 1st level spells and no caster level check needed.

The closest I can think of is the magical training feat in PGTF, which lets you cast 3 cantrips/day (and you get 3 extra 0 lv slots if you are an arcane spellcaster).

Your version seems okay, though ASF pretty much makes it useless for a fighter, save for a few select spells like true strike.:P

Player's Guide to Faerun? I don't actually play in Forgotten Realms, but as DM I allow anything in, so I'll check it out. Thanks. I completely forgot about ASF, but it really won't be that big of a deal, with the characters mostly sticking to divine spells for the armored ones.
