ok this was brought up in a subpar kinda way in classes threads. lemme know what you think of sweeping strikes feat

You are adept at fighting more than one enemy at once and hitting them where it hurts.
Prereq: BAB +7, power attack, weapon focus (any 2h slash/blud), weapon spec (same weapon as weapon focus)
Benefit: You may make a single attack roll to attack two adjacent enemies to whom you threatening. This single attack is a standard action with a -4 to your attack roll. Before you roll the attack choose one of the two enemies you plan to swing at, this one is hit first. If the attack roll fails to hit one enemy it does not fail you just fail to hit that enemy. If the attack is successful roll damage against both targets normally.
Special: Precision damage (ie. skirmish, sneak attack, sudden strike) only effects the enemy you struck first. If you miss the first target the precision damage does not carry on to the second target. Other abilities do effect both attack rolls, specifically power attack, smite, true strike(spell), and any other ability that effects next attack roll.
Special: A fighter may take Sweeping Strikes as a fighter feat.

ok guys lemme know what you think about this one. Had no rule books with me at the time so i may be a little off with a few small rules.

have at it, lemme know if its something youd play.

It looks good to me.

hmm, you think?

i guess it allows a fighter to make 2 attacks and still be able to move. just dont have the same chance to hit.

dont be afraid to lemme know how ya feel guys ;p

before stupid 4e comes out and ruins my chances to play a kobold fighter for an extended period of time ;(

I'd remove the Power Attack prerequisite. This isn't a feat that only people using two-handed weapons would want.

heh i put it in there along with weapon spec to make it stronger in a sense.

in other words even to use this ability you have to be able to bring out its full potential.

since power attack effects both targets and weapon spec adds dmg its almost guaranteed to do a rather good amount of damage. Also i thought itd be good flavor wise that in order to attack wide and recklessly enough to use this ability you had to have practice at using the same maneuver against a single opponent.

thanks tho its rolling around in my head, deciding what to replace it with

I can see some possible abusive if combined with warhulk and warmind, but alone, it seems okay...

When you say that the attack action is a standard action, does this mean it is limited to 1/round, or are you allowed to make as many sweeping strikes as you have iterative attacks?

I would really hope this question answers itself, as you are only allowed one standard action in a round.

The feat makes no mention of it taking an 'attack action', but rather that 'this single attack is a standard action', meaning that iterative such attacks are not possible.

Yes, I understand that you're forcing a certain type of flavor on the ability. That is the problem. The ability could just as easily and reasonably be represented in a number of other ways, so you should avoid forcing one particular representation.

As for replacing it, why? The feat really doesn't warrant so many requirements.

I was under the impression that you don't need a "melee Manyshot" because Manyshot is already "ranged Whirlwind Attack."

There's already a martial maneuver (steel wind I think) that lets you attack two targets with one swing.

You were mistaken.

Whirlwind attacks multiple targets, Manyshot attacks one target multiple times.
Whirlwind is a full-round action, Manyshot is a standard action.
Whirlwind has stupidly high requirements, Manyshot doesn't.

So really, if we wanted this to be Melee Manyshot, it would basically be taking Slashing Flurry, knocking off half of the prerequisites, making the penalties a little less ridiculous, and letting it apply to any weapon.

Greater Manyshot can hit multiple targets and can be taken at the same time you gain Manyshot.

Dodge, Mobility, Spring Attack, Combat Expertise, Whirlwind Attack
Point Blank Shot, Rapid Shot, Manyshot, Greater Manyshot

Whirlwind Attack has one more feat but a lower BAB requirement.

Take Martial Study (steel wind). No prereqs.

really the point with this attack is that it allows the use of buff spells and abilities to effect two attacks.

for example a scout/fighter with this ability.
move then get 2 skirmishes in melee.
at diff enemies.

or true strike / power attack combo.
can give up entire BAB (7 min) and get +7 dmg.

just a little thing to allow a few little bonuses when only using an attack option once in a round instead of full attack option.

instead of having to stand still and hoping some one comes to you, you can move and attack each round.

which is of course why a BAB of 7 is at least required, i dont want lvl 4 fighters running around gettin two attacks per round so freely.

allows the fighter to me a much move mobile combatant and to help with CC (ie casters can subject to concen rolls while the fighter also attacks a fellow melee combatant)

so all in all you guys think its ok?
would you take it as a 7th lvl fighter to play test it? would you touch it with a 10 ft pole?

Too much prerequisites.

But either way, you should rewrite that:
As a standard action, you may make a single attack roll to attack two adjacent enemies to whom you are threatening; this attack roll has as -4 penalty to hit. Before you roll the attack choose one of the two enemies you plan to swing at, this one is hit first. Each attack is resolved seperately for whether the enemy is hit (as normal). If the attack is successful roll damage against both targets normally.

There, I can't see a questions caused.

Again, the requirements are high for a 1st level manuever. There difference is it is useable multiple times in a battle with no downtime, unlike the manuver.

But still, Power attack? What! I don't see it. Cleave maybe.
Why 2 handed weapon?
Why Weapon specializaation?

Prereq: BAB +6, Cleave
This means you have 2 attacks from bab, and cleave also represents extra attacks.
I find this is most logical requirements.

ok to answer a few questions:

But still, Power attack? What! I don't see it. Cleave maybe.
Ok i went with power attack because it makes more sense to me.
For one cleave represents attacking then turning and attacking a second enemy separately, powerattack strikes me as just hitting hard or without abandon if you will. Also in the ability i mentioned that powerattack effects both targets. I made PA a prereq so that any1 can use the attack with full potential. So any 10 int char :) cant accidentally not use it as powerfully as possible.

Why 2 handed weapon?
Just makes sense why/how would someone even make an attack against 10 feet of space with a one handed weapon. You just dont have the control with a 1h as you would with a 2h. Plus how many sword/board players do it only for dishing out all that 1h 1337 dmg?

Why Weapon specialization?
Few reasons, kinda wanted to make it a fighter option exclusively. Only a fighter would really have the feats that may make this ability worth it. Also when one has weapon spec it just makes sense that in a flavor sense they have enough experience to use the maneuver correctly.

Think of it in the same terms i had the thought rolling around in my head.
Ill use an education analogy:
Highschool diploma: "weapon focus" lvl 1
Associates Degree: "weapon specialization" lvl 4
Bachelors Degree: "weapon specialization" lvl 8
Masters Degree: "greater weapon specialization" lvl 12
Phd./Doctorate: "Weapon Supremacy" lvl 18

i guess what i mean is that its fro flavor reasons, while also just inherently giving more martial effect at the same time.

By making two attacks, each of which are very, very quick at the cost of accuracy.

You just dont have the control with a 1h as you would with a 2h.
Yes, you do. You also tend to have better balance.

Plus how many sword/board players do it only for dishing out all that 1h 1337 dmg?
Yeah, let's make the problem of two-handed weapons being the only worthwhile weapons even worse!

not completely true, sword and board has its uses. it really helps, and dont forget how popular dual wielding is in this game.

when the biggest argument on the forums is whether or not drizzt have levels in tempest or dervish...

and by the control statement you misunderstand me, having both hands on a weapon allows a certain amount of control in melee. A longsword has about a 3 foot blade if i remember correctly. A greatsword has about a 4-5 foot blade, and assuming the picture in the PHB was meant to be accurate id say more between 4-4.5 ft.

so having twice the "hands" on a weapon thats only 25-30% bigger can really give some one control. I also believe that balance isnt an issue for some one with a 2h. If anything the fact that your short sword is 2lb and your shield is 10-15lb (wood/steel) could throw off your balance much more.

its all perception, if PrC can have flavor requirements then a feat shouldnt be held to a diff standard. Specially one that a fighter can qualify for by lvl 4, and still have 7 feats left at lvl 7.

you can still have cleave.
when one has 10 feats at level 7 whose to say weapon focus/spec arent worth it ;p
jeez 10 feats. yay for human/unearthed arcana combo WOOT
