| coob of highmoor02-10-08, 03:25 PM | quick question, does holy strike mean that it has the same as bless weapon the spell? |
| dman1123502-10-08, 03:44 PM | What? Are you referring to the BoED feat Holy Ki Strike? Or the VoPov ability Holy Strike? Or something else? |
| Kouk02-10-08, 03:49 PM | Holy Strike makes any weapon you wield count as if it was enchanted with the +2 equivalent Holy enchantment, but only when you use it. Bless Weapon is still useful to cast because it auto-confirms crits and allows you to hit incorporeal creatures. If for some strange reason your weapon isn't already magical, it will allow the weapon to hit as if it was magical. If you get disarmed and have to grab a chair to wield as an improvised weapon, it will be a Holy chair if you have the Holy Strike feat, unless the chair was created with evil magic which resulted in it having an inherent evil alignment for its damage. |
| coob of highmoor02-10-08, 03:57 PM | thanks i have a pc that thinks it has the auto-confirms crit already. cos its blessed as the spell bless weapon. cheers for the clear up.:) |
| dman1123502-10-08, 04:04 PM | It depends on where you get the feat from. According to the SRD, it only makes the weapon holy, but the CDiv and Realms Help both have it give the weapon the Bless Weapon spell. Page 89 in the CDiv (very end of the page) or here (http://realmshelps.dandello.net/cgi-bin/feats.pl?Holy_Strike,all) make it blessed (which I can only assume means the Bless Weapon spell), and the SRD (which has epic feats updated from the ELH) has it only make weapons holy. |

I didn't realize it was reprinted in Complete Divine, I was using the SRD. If the OP is using Complete Divine, then the answer may be different. The language of the feat is kind of bizarre though, "in addition the weapon is considered blessed, which means it has special effects on certain creatures." You could interpret that to mean it functioned as if it had the Bless Weapon spell on it. I don't know what else it could be, but they didn't say "Functions as if under the effects of the Bless Weapon spell." You can consider though it is practically letting a level 1 Paladin spell be continuous, which isn't that big of a deal at Epic Levels in general. It is odd though, that the Unholy Weapon feat does not include a similar line about it affecting "certain creatures." |
| dman1123502-10-08, 04:27 PM | Really? Hmm. Well, about the continuos bless weapon, I don't really see anything else it could be. And then the Unholy Strike just messes everything up. If I were you, I'd use the SRD version, so they are the same. Also, it would be duplicating a level 1 spell as an (ex) ability, since it doesn't say it's (su). |
| aelryinth02-10-08, 07:45 PM | blessed is a turn of phrase, not an effect. All it gives you is Holy dmg +2d6. Mind you, there is also a sacred effect which gives +1d6 holy dmg. With the language of the feat, being 'blessed' merely means it's considered holy/good aligned for overcoming DR and Regen (i,.e. has special effect on certain creatures vulnerable to good dmg). ===Aelryinth |
| dman1123502-10-08, 08:00 PM | It does not say anything to that effect anywhere I have seen Aelryinth. Could you point that out to me? Also, why even say that? It's holy now, so it automatically does that. Same goes for the Unholy Strike and evil. It's probably just some dumb extra phrases that they stuck in though, so you're probably right. |
