if a spell has a duration of concentration + X, you're allowed to temporarily stop concentrating for up to X turns to cast another spell and then resume concdentration?

I think you wouldn't see a tremendous change because combats don't last many rounds at all.

However, there are skill tricks and feats (I think) that let you concentrate as a swift action, or let your familiar concentrate for you, so you can cast other spells while keeping a previous one still active.

You might want to limit the spells to only those X number of rounds that it can exist without concentration, so a player doesn't just keep alternating which rounds he is concentrating so as to keep the spell in existence forever while he continues to cast other spells.

I dont believe you are allowed to "re-start" concentrating on something.
It certainly doesnt say you can anywhere, least as far as Ive seen.
