I invented a new feat:

Dismissable Spell [Metamagic]
This feat lets you turn a non-dismissable spell with a duration other than instantaneous into a dismissable spell. If the spell is permanent, it raises the spell slot level by 1, if it is not permanent then it does not change the spell slot required to cast the spell.

Is this good? Should it be changed? Can you use it?

I'd say nonpermenant up by 1, permenant up by 2 (sorry about my spelling), but I'm no rules lawyer. Good idea though. :)

I've always thought you could "turn off" your spell effects if you wanted to.

If not i have been playing that wrong for 2 decades now lol

If not i have been playing that wrong for 2 decades now lolFrom the SRD:

(D) Dismissible

If the Duration line ends with "(D)," you can dismiss the spell at will. You must be within range of the spell’s effect and must speak words of dismissal, which are usually a modified form of the spell’s verbal component. If the spell has no verbal component, you can dismiss the effect with a gesture. Dismissing a spell is a standard action that does not provoke attacks of opportunity.

A spell that depends on concentration is dismissible by its very nature, and dismissing it does not take an action, since all you have to do to end the spell is to stop concentrating on your turn.

Regarding the original post, I think that this is a useful feat. I'd argue that what is being done with the feat is particularly different from what other spell-affecting feats do to spells and so I'd require a Spellcraft check to make it work. In other words, you're changing a non-dismissible spell into a potentially dismissible spell. I'd make the DC 15 + Spell Level (and, no Take-10).

What spells would this be good to use on?

I think its a solid feat. Power/Mechanically. I disagree w/queeny about the +1 spell level. I do think that Permanents should cost +1, and I suggest Permanency itself should be restricted outright. That spell should be an instant anyway.

The problem? You need some fluff here telling me why I would ever take it.

wizard with Dismissable Spell and Deceptive Spell = perfect traitor.

First, he leads you by the nose, forcing you to chase fireballs and magic missiles that apparently come from nearby allies but really come from you.

Then, at a vital moment, the traitor dismisses his water breathing/fly spell and sends you to your death.
