Anyone else get this vibe from the feat? I mean, talk about versatility. My sorcerer already has an insane amount of spell slots, and now he can apply metamagic on the fly!

I tried this out for the first time in our last game. It tore everything up. In fact, I think the only spell I didn't apply metamagic too was detect magic.

Don't get me wrong, I'm going to keep it. But I'm sure the DM is going to fast learn to hate it (:

Errr...you already could do that, just now you can move too. Haven't played a sorcerer in a long time...am I missing something?

You are remembering to use the increased spell level right? Seems like you'd run out of higher level spell slots pretty quickly because of that.

Thatīs funny, because I believe that one of the most nonsense rule created in 3rd Edition was the fact that a spontaneous caster would need to take a full round action to add metamagic feat to a spell.

Weel, first, all classes should be spontaneous. Vancian spellcasting is a bulky and just... wrong system.

Itīs not that brake the game. What brake the game is player that created a character that has 15 prestige classes in 10 lvls. That kind of stuff...

Just my 2 cents...

You are remembering to adjust spell level, right? There is also a sorcerer alternative class feature called "metamagic specialist" that gets rid of the familiar and gives you this. I'm playing a scorcerer now, and it doesn't make it any more powerful.

Spontaneous casters cast metamagic'd spells as full round actions (which the book stipulates come into effect at the beginning of your next turn).

Casting a full-round spell usually leaves me dead before my next turn (:

And you gotta' love bonus spells, more magical goodness (:

Maybe it's just me. Playing nine levels with the metamagic problems and now, well, not, seems to kick up my power substantially.

A 1 round casting will take place at the beginning of your next turn. Metamagicing something using a full round action goes off right away.

Itīs not really like that. You should read the PH2 book again. It allow you to do that only a few times per day. I believe its something like 3+ Int mod per day.

Are you talking about the metamagic feats that allow you to just add them when you cast the spell? If so there's no level adjustment but what I remember reading each feat can only be used once per day (or something like that).

Wow, I never noticed that! They have that page laid out very poorly. I was about to tell you that you were wrong, but I decided to look at the book first.

You are thinking of the Sudden metamagic feats. 3/day.

No, only 1/day. It's the metamagic feats for spell-like abilities that can be used 3/day.

Boy are people confused today :D

My bad. I was just going off the top of my head. Now that I think about it, you're right.

Rapid Metamagic is great and has been a long time in coming.

Its also very useful for a Favored Soul. Quickened buffs and quickened healing. Quite nice.

I think that rapid metamagic is underpowered compared to the metamagic specialist variant. The varient may only be 3/day +Int, but it allows you to choose when you apply it, which in conjunction with Arcane Spellsurge and the Arcane Fusion series becomes very powerful.
