Does anyone know what happens if you use Imbued summoning from PHB2 to summon more than one creature? For example, to apply it to a summon monster 3 spell to summon 1D3 monsters from the summon monster 2 list. This is all the description says:

When you cast a spell from the summoning subschool, you can choose to grant the summoned creature the benefit of any spell of 3rd level or lower you can cast that has a range of touch. You cast the spell you wish to grant the creature (using a prepared spell or a spell slot) at the same time you cast your summoning spell. The creature gains the benefit of the spell when it appears. An imbued summoning spell uses up a spell slot one level higher than the spell’s actual level.

Thanks in advance!

I think it is unclear.

The way we have handled it is if the spell affects more than one creature, like say Haste, then it can affect multiple summoned creatures. If not, like say Mage Armor, then just one of them.

Haste is range: touch?

Wow.
You're right. No. I just threw out an example, and it wasn't a good one.

Thanks for taking the time to point that out.

Haste
Transmutation
Level: Brd 3, Sor/Wiz 3
Components: V, S, M
Casting Time: 1 standard action
Range: Close (25 ft. + 5 ft./2 levels)
Targets: One creature/level, no two of which can be more than 30 ft. apart

Range:Touch huh..?

EDIT : Oh wait, now I get it, damn my skimming! Ignore me...

So, what sort of touch spells are there under 3rd level that affect more than one target?

Usally they are more clear than that. Its not like this is some major exeption, or some sort of optimization, but it's a common use for the spell. It's unfortunate, really.

I'd allow it to affect each creature. I mean, the creatures you summon when you do summon more than one are going to be weaker anyway, so why not?

I believe that its covered in the errata (or perhaps the FAQ) to be only one creature.

Regardless the feat isn't all that good because of the +1 level bump.

But Displacement can see some great use with this. And it is cutting the second action to cast the second spell on the summoned creature.

Basically, if it were no boost, it would be way too powerful. If it were any spell, it would be too powerful (Grt Invis is 4...). It's not that great, but if you are a summoner, you may find a good use for it.

1. It costs you a feat already. That's a cost. Consider what you can gain with a feat. Augment summons is a feat and gives essentially bull strength and bear's endurance.

2. It costs you the spell to cast upon the creature. It's not given for free.. just removes the action cost.

3. For the level bump you could reasonably have two creatures (take the d3 to be 2 for now) instead of one. Very few buffs are worth that.

4. If you are full round summoning when you bring them in you can buff them on that turn without the feat.

It looks like a nice feat, but a level down in summons is HUGE.

This is true. I never said it was good I just said it wasn't bad. But it does save the action (you can use the action on your turn to put up a second buff), and that's a quicken spell. Since it's a very specific "quicken", the slot cost is much less. I'd put this at about .45 spell levels up to be balanced. Since it is a benefit, it has to increase the cost. But since the cost is exagerated with summons, it's not really worth it.

The errata changed it to apply to all creatures summoned. Magic Fang, Barkskin, Protection from Energy, Spider Climb, Reduce Animal, Resist Energy, any of the +4 stat spells, Longstrider, Jump, Endure Elements...just from the core Druid List.

What exactly is the errata, anyways? It does make sense for all of them to be affected since the cost is sufficient.

Errata is a fix to what is written in the rules. Usually it's things like messed up stat blocks, since they mess up on those all the time. It's linked in my sig. Check it out. Also, the FAQ is there.

:D
I might be mistaken, but i think he was asking what the actual WORDINg of the erratta for this spell was.

Well, it sounded like he was asking what Errata is, and coupled with the very new join date, it seemed plausible that that was what (s)he was asking.

Nope, I(he) was asking what the Errata was. You don't seem to have a sig dman...

Edit: Nvm, found it.
