I just started taking a look at the Improved Diversion feat in the Complete Adventurer (pg. 110). Being able to make a diversion to hide as a move action sounds cool at first, but I am having trouble thinking of times when it will be worth it.

Here's my reasoning:

Without the feat
I am in a fight and need to hide to re-establish surprise or whatever, so I make a diversion to hide as a standard action. The BBEG fails his check and I move to a hiding spot as a move action. I am then out of actions.

With the feat
I am in previously mentioned fight. I make a diversion as a move action. BBEG is more likely to fail his save (with the feat's +4 bonus) so he fails again. I then move to my hiding spot again as another move action. Once again I am out of actions.

So aside from the +4 bonus with using Bluff for a diversion, what has the feat netted me as a bonus? The outcome is the same. Is there some situation I am not thinking of?

If you have any ideas on when this feat could be useful, please post them. This feat sounds fun, but I need a better idea on how to use it. Thanks for any input/advice.

Unfortunately, no. You hit the nail right on the head. This feat is about as usless as a straight fighter taking practiced spellcaster.

Yes, you're missing something: the case where you can Hide without moving. If there's already concealment, such as from a Darkness spell, you've met one of the two requirements to use the Hide skill. Diverting their attention so you're not being observed satisfies the other requirement.

Needing to move to get to a hiding place, and hiding as part of a move action, are just the usual cases. If you're already located in a place where you can Hide, no additional action is required to use the skill. (Action: Usually none.)

Ok, thanks. It is just as useless as I thought then. Definitely not worth a feat...
