I want to be absolutely certain about how this feat works. Let's say I have a character who wants to cast a Persistent (+4 levels), Intensified (+7 levels) Divine Power spell. This same character has taken the Improved Metamagic feat 3 times.

1ST: Is the level of this spell 9th? 4 + 1 (persistent = 4-3 with Imp. Meta. x3) + 4 (intensified = 7-3 with Imp. Meta. x3)?

2ND: Or is it 12th? 4 (original spell level) + 4 (persistent spell) + 7 (intensified spell) - 3 (improved metamagic x3)?

Thanks for any clarification? I always thought it was as shown in the first example.

Technically, #1, as per the SRD:

Improved Metamagic [Epic]
Prerequisites

Four metamagic feats, Spellcraft 30 ranks.
Benefit

The spell slot modifier of all your metamagic feats is reduced by one level, to a minimum of +1. This feat has no effect on metamagic feats whose spell slot modifier is +1 or less.
Special

You can gain this feat multiple times. The effects stack, though you can’t reduce any metamagic feat’s spell slot modifier to less than +1.

Technically it would be 1.

But I think it also would be a collosal waste of metamagic levels, because Intensify does nothing for Divine Power

Intensify:
All variable, numeric effects of an intensified spell are maximized, then doubled.

Divine Power: Has no variable, numeric effects. It is a set amount of +6 to strength and 1hp/caster level. Neither are variable, so neither are affected.

Intensify does nothing to Divine Power.

------

P.S. you need 30 ranks of Spellcraft (27 levels) before you can take Improved Metamagic (and also four metamagic feats).

So the closest you could get x3 Improved Metamagic would be 30th level (first feat at 27, cleric bonus at 29, then last one at 30th)

It can be either 1 or 2, depending on which version of improved metamagic you subscribe to.

If you are using the DMG3.5 version, then you would use 2, the crappier option.

If you pretend that does not exist, and faithfully adhere to the ELH/SRD version, then good for you...:P

/agree with earlier part, but with this, you forgot to mention "In a completely Core setting with the ELH"; I can be way better than that right at 27th level with the right splat :D
