| E_Vernon06-03-07, 01:12 PM | Are there any feats, spells, class abilities, etc. that decrease the distance penalty for Spot checks? |
| turtlemonkey06-03-07, 01:53 PM | Only one I can think of is the Cragtop Archer of Races of Stone. It makes it the distance penalty -1 for every 20 feet, instead of -1 for every 10 feet |
| E_Vernon06-03-07, 03:39 PM | Yea, I saw that one too, but it was all I could find. :( Well if that's it, then, I guess I'll just have to beef up my Spot check. |
| Majick06-03-07, 03:45 PM | hmm... well i guess skill focus spot is pretty much all i can think of... pity they don't have some sort of spot variation of the Keen Eared Scout feat from PHB2 - that'd be awesome :D |
| E_Vernon06-03-07, 04:21 PM | Well the whole goal I was going for was a distant-sniper. Finding the attack and damage bonuses was easy, but spotting your target from 180 feet away....Spot check with a -18 penalty. Bleh. |
| tui06-03-07, 04:47 PM | Well, there's Hawk's Vision from CAdv. It's a Wild feat, that gives you that -1/20' benefit, +8 on spot checks, and half the normal range penalty for range increments. |
| E_Vernon06-03-07, 04:56 PM | That would be awesome, except I'm going for Fighter 3 / Sniper Scout 5 / Darkwood Sniper 2, so no wild shape... :[ What a bummer. |
| kjenks06-03-07, 07:30 PM | Spyglass, 1,000 gp, Player's Handbook. |
| Psyber706-03-07, 08:28 PM | Spyglass, 1,000 gp, Player's Handbook. Are you telling him to mount a scope on his bow?!? Excellent... :plotting: |
| cwslyclgh06-03-07, 09:05 PM | no, you use the spy glass to spot the target, once you know he is there you can see him and shoot your bow with no problems (other then the normal range penalties)... |
| E_Vernon06-03-07, 09:37 PM | I didn't think that would work for some reason, but, if it does, then it is an easy solution. :) |
| kjenks06-04-07, 12:19 AM | no, you use the spy glass to spot the target, once you know he is there you can see him and shoot your bow with no problems (other then the normal range penalties)... And I have something for that, too... Arrow, Swiftwing: These arrows are made slightly longer than normal with a small, aerodynamic head and enlarged fletching (the feathers added to the shaft) for extra stability and accuracy on long shots. A swiftwing arrow incurs only half the usual penalty for attacking at range (-1 per range increment rather than the usual -2). Source: Races of the Wild, page 164. |
| Dead_Weasel06-05-07, 03:42 AM | Eyes of the Eagle help a little bit, and are relatively inexpensive. Improved Eyes of the Eagle ought to be easy to convince a DM to allow, since they would be basically identical to Improved Rings of Climbing/Jumping/Swimming. |
