Improved Weapon Finesse Requirements: BAB +4, Weapon Finesse Using skill and agility you know how to strike your opponent where it hurts. Benefit: You may add your dexterity to damage instead of strength with any light weapon as well as any weapon that can be used with weapon finesse, Targets immune to critical hits or sneak attack is also immune to this feat. You may not use this feat while wearing medium or heavy armor or when carrying a medium or heavy load. |
| Leaflitter01-20-08, 10:53 AM | that would make a master thrower way to strong. my halfing master thrower would be dealing 12 damage with each shuriken thrown and he bets 16 throws each round. so for that i would say this becomes overpowered (and he gets sneak attack damage). but as with every thing if you play it right it can be far. well there's my 2 cents |
| Shadowhowler01-20-08, 11:58 AM | As far as the Master thrower is concerned, I'm not sure it would work that way. Weapon Finesse only works for melee weapons. After all, you already use DEX for thrown weapons. So this feat could be read that the DEX to damage is only in melee combat, not ranged. |
| StevenO01-20-08, 03:51 PM | No thank you. DEX is already strong enough so why let it remove the last thing STR has going for it and do it so early? Even if I wasn't against it from a balance PoV, I think you need much harder prereqs (I'm thinking BAB +10 at least.) Adding DEX to damage is an often discussed topic so I'll just stop now and say keep DEX out of damage unless your goal it to completely change how the game is played. |
| Enigmis01-20-08, 04:16 PM | This feat seems fine to me. It is less restrictive than shadow blade which is a bonus, but this is balanced by the fact that it is counted as precision damage. Over all I would prefer shadow blade, but for characters who aren't accessing ToB classes this seems fine enough. |
| Zardnaar01-20-08, 11:23 PM | Well in our playtest it isn't exactly broken. The PCs are level 8 and the Swashbuckler 4/Rogue 4 with the Daring outlaw Feat has this feat. She gets to add her intelligence bonus to damage as well. With a keen rapier she is doing 1d6+8 damage (15-20X2 crit). She also has 4d6 sneak attack as well. The Sorcerer is throwing around Sudden Maximised spells and has Arcane Thesis (Scorching Ray) and Bloodline of Fire feat. Lvl 8 sorceror casts scorching ray at 12th level of ability and all fire spells at 10th level. The Ranger 1/Fighter7 tends to hit for around 2d6+12 minimum and often is power attacking as well for even more damage. 2d6+20 is about average and he is about to get a crit range of 15-20 (uses a Jovar) at level 9 and has the power critical feat and is probably going to take leap attack as well. I designed the feat to give the high dex characer more combat oomph and she has a higher AC than the two handed weapon fighter. I haven't seen a high dex based character that can fight well since 3.0 duelist PrC. Odds are I'll allow the 3.0 duelist vback into the game over the 3.5 version along with Deepwood Sniper. Getting bored of every combat monkey using a greatsword, great axe and now a Jovar. |
