| barna1007-02-07, 12:05 PM | Besides Dash, what feats give you an increased base land speed? |
| Dalthbar07-02-07, 12:19 PM | I can't think of anything else that's non-magical and permanent besides class abilities. |
| barna1007-02-07, 12:39 PM | Allright then, what classes give boosts to speed besides Monk, Barbarian, and Scout? |
| Majick07-02-07, 01:00 PM | there is a regional feat from the forgotten realms setting that allows an increase of 10ft regional feats are generally considered more powerful and therefore only available to people who come from 'specific' regions also in Unearthed Arcana there is a character trait that says you can have a -1 HP loss per level but gain a +10ft movement speed as the trade off so a first level barbarian with the optional trait and the regional feat could theoretically have a movement of 50ft per round, which is as fast as a horse :P also also, go a catfolk, they get some solid bonuses and 40ft move for only +1 LA, then apply the shadow template from Tome of Magic and get another 10ft for another +1 LA |
| BW022207-02-07, 01:11 PM | barna10. Allright then, what classes give boosts to speed besides Monk, Barbarian, and Scout? Druid or cleric with the travel domain can cast longstrider. At an hour/level, that is typically much of the day and certainly long enough for buffing prior to most combats. A halfling or gnome with a riding dog, wolf companion, etc. get a 40' or 50' movement from the mount, as do folks with horses or larger mounts -- although the last isn't so great in most combats in dungeons, cities, buildings, etc. For combat there are spells don't last more tha minutes (expeditious retreat) or rounds (haste). Druid wildshaping lasts hours. Magical items might help. Potions of longstrider or boots of springing and striding. For long distance (non-magical, non-mount) travel the run + ensurance feats are pretty good on roads or even terrain. Run 15-20 rounds, walk for a few minutes, run for 15-20 rounds, etc. Some monstrous races might work. Centaur for example. |
| equilibrium1707-02-07, 01:14 PM | This will do it for you, from the Psionic Feats section of the SRD: Speed Of Thought [Psionic] The energy of your mind energizes the alacrity of your body. Prerequisite Wis 13. Benefit As long as you are psionically focused and not wearing heavy armor, you gain an insight bonus to your speed of 10 feet. So no magic, not need to take Monk/Barb/Scout levels. As noted above, there are other restrictions, tho. |
| Gonf07-02-07, 05:03 PM | Also the Celerity Domain from the Complete Divine. +10 more to your speed |
| Dark1ord07-02-07, 07:55 PM | there was a thread on this recently... http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=864398 |
| sleepydeath07-03-07, 06:58 AM | swiftblade prc gives a bit speed boost and let you cast haste as free action |
| Darth Sephiroth07-03-07, 11:28 AM | If you want to play a real speed freak (I have at one point). Using Flaws and Traits), I'd reached a starting speed of 65. Class: Horse Totem Barbarian (Whirling Frenzy) Race: Human Trait: Quick (+10 ft Speed/-1 HP per HD) Flaws: Inattentive (-4 Listen and Spot), Shaky (-2 Ranged Attack) Feats: Hidden Talent (Burst), Speed of Thought, Fleet of Foot, Dash After 2nd level I went with Chaos Monk levels to boost my speed. I also took several movement related feats such as Up the Walls. I also spent my GP on items to boost my speed and had several nice toys to increase it custom made. |
| TheDragonmaster07-03-07, 02:41 PM | You have to keep the difference between Base Land Speed (hereby BLS) and just "Speed"... the former adds to the other, but they are not equal. For example, Fleet of Foot adds a +10 ft. bonus to your BLS, but Speed of Thought adds a +10 ft. Insight bonus to your "Speed". OA Nezumi has a BLS of 40 ft. and +2 Con, without any LA. Take a look at the lvl 8 ability of the RCS Ninja (Shadow Run, I think it is called)... it gives you a +5 ft. bonus to your BLS for each point of Con bonus you have... that is sick combined with the other options... and the class is nifty otherwise as well, with full BAB, full SA, 4 skill points/level, and other nice abilities... The Fast Movement ability of the OA Blade Dancer (according to common interpretation) multiplies the BLS to Speed by x2, x(2+1/3), x(2+2/3), and x3, at 1st, 4th, 7th and 10th level, respectivly. The spellcasting required might be provided by Cleric 1 for the Celerity domain, as someone pointed out. For epic levels (but low-epic ones), purchase the ELH Boots of Swiftness (doubles your "Speed", but does not stack with enhancement bonuses)... These are my most commonly used methods, I think... have fun... |
| Solian07-03-07, 03:01 PM | Expanded Psionics Handbook has a psionic feat that, when psionically focused, you gain a +10ft bonus to your speed. It also has a feat that allows you to walk across vertical surfaces at your full speed while psionically focused, which is fantastic when you have a huge bonus to speed. -Solian |
| Darth Sephiroth07-03-07, 08:19 PM | To get that psionic feat you need either levels in a psionic class or one of the two feats that give the same basis (Hidden or Wild Talent). Hidden Talent is preferred because it gives you a single 1st level power which can be the Burst Power which gives a speed boost. Skate would work just as well, except it doesn't give any bonus at all when going uphill (though you double the bonus when going downhill) and gives a bigger boost. The other difference is that Burst is a Swift Action to activate, but only lasts for 1 round. Skate would last for 1 minute but takes a standard action to activate. |
