Is there any skill, feat, or ability that might be used to model a character who occasionally has a moment of uncanny intuition, a sort of psychic flash or hunch that provides information not available by other means?

I'm not talking about something like Uncanny Dodge or Evasion, but something on a more role-play level -- Maybe 1/day you can get an intuitive flash that you should or shouldn't do something (I guess that's a bit like a contingent Augury, really...)

For example, a thief is about to open the door, but he has a hunch and waits a moment, then opens the door just as the guard turns away.

Or he might have an intuitive sense that a certain person is going to bring trouble, though he doesn't know if the person is actually deceptive, or just a magnet for dangerous situations.

Does anyone have an idea for something like that?

And I'd prefer lower-level stuff -- if it's a 4th level spell, that isn't much help.

The only thing I can think of just now would be to take a lot of the Complete Scoundrel luck feats, and blame it on 'intuition'.

I think it is probably more of a roleplaying thing where you as the player use your own intuition and hope to get lucky.

Otherwise it might be some kind of epic Wisdom check.

The closest I can think of is a feat called Portents, which I believe is from Van Richten's Arsenal. If I'm remebering this right, it let you use Augury 1/day as a spell-like ability (don't remember if it had pre-req's though). There was also a suggestion that the DM could choose to have it activate at some time the player might not have thought to use it, if it contributed to the plot. Anyway, don't know if that'll help (hope it does:))

YEah, see, that's pretty much what I was looking for. OKay, I'll look into that. Thanks.

For RP advice, you'd just need to make a slightly modified Phylactery of Faithfulness (see the SRD; it's an easily-forgotten item).

For a more mechanical intuition, just use this (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/psionic/powers/precognition.htm).

Usually, my players get such insight from me, in the form of laughter or when I ask "you want to do what?".

Actually, I'll sometimes secretly roll a simple wisdom check against a reasonable DC (where the definition of reasonable depends on the given situation). If the character passes, then I'll slide a note or something to the appropriate player. I mean, sometimes DM's that actually know what is going to happen will need to do such things for players. Just because the party cleric has an 18 in wisdom, it doesn't mean that the player who controls the cleric is able to make use of the intuition that is usually associated with such a high ability score.

The GURPS RPG has an Advantage thet lets you make an Int role to guess right when there's no logical way to decide (as in, there are three identical doors, which one is right) or when your character is about to do something stupid (the idea being to let an impulsive player, play a thoughtful character).
