| Warric05-23-07, 02:41 PM | I'm thinking of introducing a new feat into my campaign entitled Invincible Rage. Prerequisites would be the Rage class ability and a minimum BAB, maybe +4. The benefit would be that while raging, the character gains DR 2/-. This would stack with any other DR the character would have through class abilities. For example, a level 7 barbarian normally has DR 1/-, but with this feat, he could have DR 3/- while raging. It's similar to the feat in CW Improved Resiliency (I think it's called). What do you think? Forsee any problems? Is it unclear? Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks. |
| Soceus05-23-07, 05:53 PM | Well for the frienzied beserker (a prestige class in the CW), I think at level 10 (not exactly sure which level, dont have book with me) they gain something called Undying Frenzy I believe, in which they do not die, or pass out, even if at -10 hp, but the second the frenzy ends, they die. Sort of similar to your idea, but not, lol. Personally I like this feat, kinda cool. |
| Shadowfax705-23-07, 08:21 PM | Greater Resiliency is the feat in CW. IMO your feat is good, if not borderline powerful due to stacking capability. I would add a limiting line to the feat, as in Greater Resiliency, that the feat can only be taken once. A 20th level raging Barbarian could have a DR 7/- by combining these feats, and I am sure the CO boards could increase that easily. As a comparison, the Berserker Strength alternate ability for barbarians allows stacking up to DR 9/- while raging. |
| Warric05-24-07, 09:17 AM | OK then... Invincible Rage While in a rage your natural ability to shrug off damage and tolerance for pain improves. Prerequisites: Rage class ability, Endurance, BAB +7 Benefit: While in a rage the individual gains a bonus of +2 to his damage reduction natural ability. If he has no damage reduction, he gains DR 2/-. This bonus ends when the rage ends. Thus a 7th level barbarian normally has DR 1/-, but while raging he would gain DR/3. Special: A character may only take this feat once. How's this sound now? Help with the wording? |
| Selgard05-24-07, 09:24 AM | DR 9/- at 20th level? Is that really, truly a problem? |

Special: A character may only take this feat once. Use the Greater Resiliency feat as a base for the wording. Also, no need for Endurance as a prereq at all or such a high BAB. Either no BAB prereq or +4 as you originally stated. DR 9/- at 20th level? Is that really, truly a problem?Note the underlined part of what I posted. | Warric05-24-07, 12:22 PM | Hmm... I can see taking Endurance out. It seems kind of a "pigeon hole" feat in this case. But I moved the BAB to +7 simply because I don't quite know how to word it without a characater having damage reduction already. It seems too confusing to word it because of it's stacking ability with other forms of DR. By the way, what types of DR stack? |
| Shadowfax705-24-07, 01:37 PM | I can see taking Endurance out.The reason to take this out is because the feat is not strong enough to warrant another feat as a prereq. But I moved the BAB to +7 simply because I don't quite know how to word it without a characater having damage reduction already. It seems too confusing to word it because of it's stacking ability with other forms of DR.You already did word it for when no DR exists yet. See the part I underlined. Benefit: While in a rage the individual gains a bonus of +2 to his damage reduction natural ability. If he has no damage reduction, he gains DR 2/-. This bonus ends when the rage ends. Thus a 7th level barbarian normally has DR 1/-, but while raging he would gain DR/3. Special: A character may only take this feat once. Also, I would remove the bolded part. There is no need for it and it's confusing. By the way, what types of DR stack? DR stacks if it states that it stacks, otherwise it overlaps. |
| jadehawk05-24-07, 01:45 PM | I would take the BAB requirement out and just say you need to already have atleast DR 1/-. My opinion. That would mean your standard Barbarian would have to wait till what, 7th level is it? just a little nitpic too, invincible sounds a little too strong for what it does...its just a name i know, but really DR 2/- makes you tougher, not invincible. I would go with hardened rage, toughened rage, or resilient rage (stealing from greater resiliency). |
| Warric05-24-07, 02:10 PM | Ok then...here it is... Invincible Rage When infuriated you gain an increased tolerance for pain, becoming nearly impervious to minor blows. Prerequisites: Rage class ability, BAB +3. Benefit: When you enter a rage, you gain DR 2/-. This damage reduction stacks with other forms of damage recduction of the same type. For instance, a 7th level barbarian with Greater Resiliency, an adamantine chain shirt, and Invincible Rage would have DR 3/- normally, but DR 5/- while in a rage. Special: A character may only take this feat once. Thanks for your input Shadowfax7. |

I don't think it's a good idea to allow it to stack with DR from Adamantine. I meant to allow it to stack with a barbarian's already existing DR. How about . . . . This damage reduction stacks with the damage reduction gained from the barbarian class. |
