In the Savage Species book there is a feat called Roll with it, it has the pre-reqs of a Con of 20 and I think toughness, and it is a monster feat. And it gives DR 2/- .

1: Is the feat broken?
2: Could a half-ogre use the feat from the SS?

I really appreciate it!

Well, I have a hard time understanding what you just asked, but I'll try to answer.
1) B.
3) No, but half unicorns can.

i read it and it is a gerneral feat so anybody can take it.
so a dwarven fighter in the first level has a chance of ahveing damage redution.
+2 to can rolls an 18 giving him 20 con and then takes toughness as his fighter feat then roll with it as his feat for the first level.
2/_ damage reduction for a first level is great

1. Savage Species is a 3.0 book.

2. In the change over from 3.0 to 3.5 Damage Reduction was RADICALLY changed.

Effectively, everyone's DR was cut in 1/2, and then they made it harder to beat the DR by saying that Magic weapons do not beat any DR except Magic DR.

3. There is an Epic feat that grants/increases your DR by 3/-

Having a non-epic one raise it by 2 does not sound fair to me.

-----------

If you want to make a fair non-epic feat that increases Damage Reduction, it should raise your DR by +1, not +2.

This is in line with the conversion from 3.0 to 3.5 cutting DR in half.

You still come out ahead, as back in 3.0 DR was beaten by anyone with a magic weapon, and that no longer applies.

Just to add to Tarkin's comments, I believe there is also a feat that grants +2 to DR if you already have some kind of DR of the same type due to race in 3.5.

In light of that pre-req, Roll With It does seem a tad bit too powerful in a 3.5 setting since it gives DR 2/-.

Broken? No, since you need toughness and a high con to start with. While a 1st level dwarf fighter could do it, it has to meet the rolled 18, which isn't promised. The epic level feat Damage Reduction only has a requirement of con 21, much easier to do with 21+ levels to work with. Since both SS and the ELH are 3.0, they shouldn't be in conflict with one another.

I don't think so. DR 2 seems like a lot at the very beginning, but at the upper levels you will have wished you took Improved Natural armor or something.

Oh it also stacks with itself and any other DR you might gain.
What you want to do is take it for every regular feat and just go streight fighter
using the fighter bonus feats for the pump damage stuff.
I recently discovered this feat wile borrowing a friends Savage Species book, should make a pretty good fighter.

Actually 3.25. Not to mention that anything not updated or specifically contradicting anything can still be used in 3.5.

2. In the change over from 3.0 to 3.5 Damage Reduction was RADICALLY changed.

Effectively, everyone's DR was cut in 1/2, and then they made it harder to beat the DR by saying that Magic weapons do not beat any DR except Magic DR.

And a character that dumps all of his feats into this isn't going to be that great. Sure, he'll survive longer against the Frenzied Berserker, that that's about it. A melee character who can actually last in melee a while. Novel concept, I know.

3. There is an Epic feat that grants/increases your DR by 3/-

A lot of Epic feats aren't that epic.

The feat is fine as-is. Only Dwarven Fighters and the like are going to be taking this feat at first level, and at the expense of Power Attack, Weapon Focus, Improved Trip (which doesn't even rely on damage), or any other number of feats. Opportunity cost.

Should make a gimped character, because you are basically a brick wall. And brick walls don't hurt that much.

I second Vloorshad's comment that many epic feats are not actually powerful to an epic degree. Roll With It generally isn't broken. It might be nice for a low-level game, but you're then spending your only extra feat on it. Unless you've taken flaws, you won't be getting it at 1st level.

Half-ogres can take feats from SS just like anyone else. Some of them have the [Monstrous] descriptor, but the workings of that are somewhat fuzzy and generally amount to "work it out with your DM".

Better to be a brick wall than a meat shield, don't forget that your still getting all your fighter bonus feats for the damage pump. Could still take Power Attack, Weapon Focus, Weapon Special, Greater Focus, Greater Special, Leap Attack, Robilar's Gambit, Deft Opertunist. Seems to me thats a brick wall with some nasty damage potential. Not to mention your gonna need less healing from the Cleric freeing up him to cast damage spells or pump spells.

Does this DR stack with Dwarven Defender DR?

keep in mind that this damage reduction (which is nearly unattainable by 1st level) is not that better than that of a warforged with adamantine plating (which is only possible at 1st level).

Thinking on it further, if you spent every possible feat on it, you would end up with DR 12/- by the time you reached 18th level, something that is not too far from the damage reduction granted to some classes and prestige classes at 20th level (and they don't have to use up all of their feats).

So you have a workable character at the cost of all of your non-fighter feats. How unbalanced!:D
