| Silverblade The Enchanter05-22-07, 10:00 AM | In the Neverwinter Nights 2 game, there is a feat called "Able Minded", it lets cross class skills cost only 1 point to raise by 1, though max ranks for cross classed still applies. That's an awesome feat, but so far I haven't seen anything like it in my myriad of WOTC books. Anyone know if it's in there, under a different name/guise perhaps? :) |
| Frugal05-22-07, 10:07 AM | Able Learner, Races of Destiny. |
| MingThing05-22-07, 12:46 PM | And dont forget, if u multiclass one level into rouge, you get the trapfinding class ability, and your max disarm device, search and spot ranks will be the same as a full level rogue. (at least, that what ive read on the forum and from the rules book) Party needs a rogue, but u want to be a bard or ranger? noooo problems, be a human, take the feat at prerequisite lvl, and dip one lvl into rogue ;) |
| Frugal05-22-07, 01:04 PM | Well, only if you have enough skill points to go around. 1st level dip into rogue taken at 1st level means you can jack up those skills to 4 ranks, and if your future classes give you enough skill points to keep them up there you can do it (since once it was a class skill it's always considered a class skill for max ranks and able learner means it always costs 1 skill point). |
| Silverblade The Enchanter05-22-07, 02:14 PM | thanks for the help! :) tha tshould be a feat in the PHB, imho, it's that good. |
| Darth Sephiroth05-22-07, 03:02 PM | There is also the feat in Unearthed Arcana that makes cross-class skills into class skills |
| StruckingFuggle05-22-07, 03:26 PM | (since once it was a class skill it's always considered a class skill for max ranks and able learner means it always costs 1 skill point). Really? Huh, if that's the case... I must have missed that in the rules. o.O |
| Frugal05-22-07, 03:31 PM | Really? Huh, if that's the case... I must have missed that in the rules. o.O From the SRD: Regardless of whether a skill is purchased as a class skill or a cross-class skill, if it is a class skill for any of your classes, your maximum rank equals your total character level + 3. If that weren't the case it would make figuring out cross-class skills with multiclassing pretty much impossible. Normally it would still cost you 2 points to raise it if you've taken a level in a class that doesn't have it as a class skill but since able learner makes cross class skills cost 1 point (but subject to normal limits for max ranks) that issue's removed. |
| kalstrand05-22-07, 03:34 PM | Keep in mind Able Learner can only be taken at level 1 and only if you are Human or Doppleganger. |
| Tyberian05-22-07, 05:43 PM | About able learner, if you are a sharakim you have the humanoid type with the human subtype allowing you to take feats with human as a prerequisite. Also, there is an optional rule obscurely mentioned in races of destiny ( not to be confused with the feat which gives the same thing) which allows half-humans to add the human subtype to the already pre-existing character traits. As a result, you could take able learner at first level as a half-elf or a half-orc. Another important tidbit, all skills are class-skills for the exemplar prestige class. Combine that with able learner and you can raise any skill to your character level+3 at a 1 for 1 cost. |

That's thinking small. Take a level of Factotum (from Dungeonscape) and able learner. Suddenly, all skills are class skills in both max ranks and skill point cost per rank. Not to mention you still have trapfinding, get some cool per-encounter abilities, and are proficient with all martial weapons. But all skills as class skills is the really nice bit. Max ranks in Iajitsu Strike, anyone? |
