| Rowangar06-02-07, 01:33 PM | Is there any way I can jump off a wall to increase my distance? I'm not sure the exact rules on this if two wall are lets say ten feet apart can I jump from wall to wall scaling upwards jackie chan style? another way of putting this is if there's a wall nearby can I jump at it and if my movement allows make another jump check from the wall? It works well in real life, but I know this is D&D not reality. What are the rules for jumping up and over; both horizontally and vertically at once? |
| ShinAkuma206-02-07, 01:41 PM | Climb Vertical Surface The character can climb up to 20 feet (as part of normal movement) by jumping and bouncing off walls, trees, or similar vertical surfaces. The character must have at least two vertical surfaces to bounce off, and the two must be within 10 feet of each other. DC 50 Tumble Check. |

| InkBlot06-02-07, 03:59 PM | It's in the epic rules. He either has a copy of the Epic Level Handbook, or he looked it up in the SRD. (http://www.systemreferencedocuments.org/35/sovelior_sage/epicSkills.html#tumble) Anyway, there's many ways to do what you're asking without making a DC 50 tumble check. You can take the psionic feat Up The Walls (http://www.systemreferencedocuments.org/35/sovelior_sage/psionicFeats.html#up-the-walls). This allows you to take up to a single move action up a vertical surface, so long as you are psionicaly focused. Psionic focus is a heightened stated of conciousness which psychic characters can achieve. It lasts until you expend it to take 15 on a concentration check, or to fuel certain feats (however, many feats require you to remain psionically focused instead). Any character can become psionic by taking the feat Wild Talent or taking a level in a psionic class. There's also some skill tricks for this in Complete Scoundrel (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ex/20070105a&page=5). Walk The Walls lets you walk on a wall without a climb check, at 1/4 speed. Wall Jumper lets you jump from a wall as if you had a running start, so long as you are able to climb that wall. Leaping Climber lets you make a jump check and add the result to your climb check. Skill tricks are kind of like feats, except you can learn them at any level by spending 2 skill points, you can only use each trick once per encounter (or once per minute out of combat), and every skill trick expands the use of a skill. |
