| StruckingFuggle07-19-07, 05:23 PM | Just wondering, what happens if you have Knockback, and smack someone mounted, and they fail the resultant opposed check enough to go moving, ... do they get unmounted, does the mount move with them, or what? |
| ShinAkuma207-19-07, 08:07 PM | I'd allow the rider a Ride check in place of the normal Str check. If he still fails, he is unmounted. Not exactly a core rule, but it has its precedence in other feats/abilities that interact in similar ways. |
| kjenks07-19-07, 10:42 PM | The core rules only give a couple of ways to unseat a mounted opponent. A trip attack is the usual option. You can also KO the rider or KO the horse. The knockback rules don't specifically allow you to unseat a rider, so I wouldn't let you do it with knockback alone. I do the same thing with Awesome Blow, grapple and improved grab. If the rule doesn't say that the attack form unseats the rider, then it doesn't unseat the rider. |

Unless you are VERY tall you aren't going to be able to think about pulling it if. You'd have to try it against the mount. |

By the fact that he has Knockback, he's at least Large (or Medium with Powerful Build). I do the same thing with Awesome Blow, grapple and improved grab. If the rule doesn't say that the attack form unseats the rider, then it doesn't unseat the rider. So what's your ruling? Does the ability simply fail, or does the horse get blown away too? |
| kjenks07-20-07, 03:45 PM | So what's your ruling? Does the ability simply fail, or does the horse get blown away too? Unless the DM makes a house rule, I can't see how the Awesome Blow feat could possibly work on a mounted character because only a Trip attack can unseat a rider. SRD === AWESOME BLOW [GENERAL, FIGHTER] Prerequisites: Str 25, Power Attack, Improved Bull Rush, size Large or larger. Benefit: As a standard action, the creature may choose to subtract 4 from its melee attack roll and deliver an awesome blow. If the creature hits a corporeal opponent smaller than itself with an awesome blow, its opponent must succeed on a Reflex save (DC = damage dealt) or be knocked flying 10 feet in a direction of the attacking creature’s choice and fall prone. The attacking creature can only push the opponent in a straight line, and the opponent can’t move closer to the attacking creature than the square it started in. If an obstacle prevents the completion of the opponent’s move, the opponent and the obstacle each take 1d6 points of damage, and the opponent stops in the space adjacent to the obstacle. === If a rider gets smacked around with an Awesome Blow, the mount and/or the saddle look enough like an obstacle that "prevents the completion of the opponent’s move" to invoke that last clause of the rule, so I'd be apt to give the rider and the mount 1d6 damage each and the rider stays in his saddle. |

Essentially allows you to bull rush on a melee hit without moving with the target. -Elemmakil |
| StruckingFuggle07-21-07, 07:46 PM | By the fact that he has Knockback, he's at least Large (or Medium with Powerful Build). The specific case is a Half-Minotaur Dwarf. Who we gave Powerful Build instead of being outright large ... but he was also jumping, so he was more than high enough to hit a Goblin on an Ashworm. And when a 20+ str Dwarf hits you with a Maul, is a saddle really something blocking you from going flying? (I do like the ride check instead of a strength check, I think I'd go with that, even though it basically means "rider wins"... but it allows the rare opportunity otherwise, so right.) |
| ShinAkuma207-21-07, 08:59 PM | And when a 20+ str Dwarf hits you with a Maul, is a saddle really something blocking you from going flying? That's how I feel. You're not really strapped into a saddle. You're just kind of sitting on it. That's why getting onto or off of a horse is a move action, and can be a free action. You're just...sitting on it. |
