Now I know what the PHB says about knowledge checks against monsters. What I would like opinions on is on the order in which to give out the information.

For example, I roll a 26 against a bearded devil (6 hit die). Obviously the character would know what it was and two other useful pieces of information. In what order would you give that information out and what would you omit?

Actually, he should get 3 pieces. One for making the DC 16 check, and one each for every 5 by which he beat it.

Anyway, one freebie that should come with knowing the name is the type, as well as all abilities associated with that type (for instance, all Devils are immune to Fire and Acid).

You can either have the players ask further questions (things like DR and SR are usually important), or just tell them what would be important to the character that made the check.

If a Wizard made the check, he'd probably know about the SR, and the Infernal Wounds.
