Large Throwing... and such [Archive] - Wizards Community

This is one of those question that despite the fact that it may seem like common sense, the rules on the matter (i believe) say otherwise:

A Half-Ogre, a large sized creature, decides he wants to take the feat Throw Anything (from Complete Warrior?). Normally when someone of medium size takes this feat it gives them a throw range of 10ft...

Does it change to 20ft for a large sized creature such as our Half-Ogre friend, or is his/her ranged throwing increment literally the same as his/her NORMAL REACH WITH FISTS for being large?

Just wondering

Range increment with Thrown Weapons goes up by 25% for each size category increase. I must have missed this in the rules. Can you point me at the source, please?

Savage Species has it in the section of their new weapons. 3E, but I haven't seen any new takes on this ruling, so it is still offical.

A&EG agrees. +25% on ranged weapons as you go up, -25% as you go down. Actually this can no longer be considered official, as it's based on the obsolete 3.0 weapon size system. Under 3.0 rules a weapon's size was the same as its size as an object, so a Medium creature would wield a Medium longsword, a Small shortsword, and a Tiny dagger. Contrast that with the 3.5 system:A weapon’s size category isn’t the same as its size as an object. Instead, a weapon’s size category is keyed to the size of the intended wielder. In general, a light weapon is an object two size categories smaller than the wielder, a one-handed weapon is an object one size category smaller than the wielder, and a two-handed weapon is an object of the same size category as the wielder. Also in 3.0 each weapon size increase bumped up the weight by only 50%, but by 3.5 rules the weight increases 100%. So you see that the weapon size categories that Savage Species and Arms and Equipment Guide are basing their rules on are no longer applicable.

Without any rules based on 3.5 weapon sizes, there's no RAW change in ranges for smaller or larger weapons. You can add such as house rules in your games, of course.

I think the sensible thing to do is say that range increments start at the end of your natural reach.
