Suppose a nymph takes 17 levels in Druid, gaining ECL 30...suppose she has leadership and additionally epic leadership....would her level adjustment count in figuring out cohorts and the like? How about the 6 racial hit dice?

While I am here, may as well ask, a "nymph as a character" has how much plussage to her Charisma and other stats?

A character’s base Leadership score equals his level plus any Charisma modifier.
Level = Hit Die. Do not count Level Adjustment for anything related to effects that vary by your character's level. Level Adjustment is used ONLY for calculating experience and when you level up. In your case, your Character Level is 23, while your Effective Character Level is 30. Use the 23 for ANY effect that depends on your level, while you use the 30 to determine how much experience you get, as well as how much you need to level up.

Plussage is an interesting word. Nymphs appear to have a +6 CHA.

So a level 32 guy who has a cohort nymph, also with leadership and such, would be level 30 but only be able to recruit level 21?

Thats ****in ganked....

Also its completely unfair that the level adjustment is counted when TAKING a nymph as a cohort, and yet it DOESNT count when the nymph gets one...

I mean I would think the special abilities that CAUSE the level adjustment ought to count for SOMETHING....

Since a nymph PC is considered the equivalent of a lv13th character, she could accrue bonuses as though she was a lv13th PC. However, by the rules, leadership benefits are keyed off character lv, which by definition is racial HD + class lvs.

Nevertheless, I would allow ECL to count towards determining the benefits of leadership and VOP.

Here is my personal House Rule on how to deal with this situation.

A creature with ECL may recruit from his OWN race ignoring both his own ECL and his cohort's/followers ECL.

This allows a 17th level Nymph to get a Nymph follower with the exact same number of levels as a 17th level Human.

However, when recruiting from other races, they must apply ECL to their cohort, but only get a set +1 benefit for having wierd powers.

This tremdously encourages people of odd races to have cohorts/followers of their own race. Which makes a lot of sense to me - after all, most followers/cohorts SHOULD be following a member of their own race, not a strange wierdo.
