Hi all,

I think I already know the answer to this, but I thought I'd ask anyway. If I have a BBEG with the leadership feat, are his cohorts and followers calculated into the EL?

I have a sneaky suspicion they are.

I am planning on putting a BBEG that is a 16th lvl Hobgoblin Cleric with the War/Destruction domains and the leadership feat (among others of course) against my party of 4 (sometimes 5) 16-17 lvl adventurers.

The BBEG has the following cohort/followers:

1 14th lvl Hobgoblin Wizard
2 6th lvl Orc Druids
2 5th lvl Orc Rangers
4 4th lvl Orc Clerics
7 3rd lvl Kobold Rogues
13 2nd lvl Orc Barbarians
135 1st lvl Goblin Fighters

I have minis for each NPC, so the encounter is a visual treat for the players and is basically about having the PCs wipe out a small army of bad-guys. The low-level are cannon-fodder, but with the right buffs and strategy, they will still pose a problem to the PCs.

I'm hoping that after a couple rounds of arrows from the NPCs getting peppered with arrows, they'll eventually throw down with some firestorms, etc... and wipe-out the low-levels -- of course, that still leaves the higher level guys who can create all sorts of problems for the PCs while they are dealing with the peons.

Thanks

Cohorts and actual followers are usually not counted as part of the EL. Supposingly, they are part of the original creature. This is a bit strange, because if you max out your leadership score, they can be almost your level and would otherwise raise the EL by at least 1.

However, if the cohort is faced alone, without his boss around, then I would rule you should get XP for facing the cohort alone.
