First, leadership is a feat that should be taken first with DM approval and then clear DM consultation. What one of us may believe is an "appropriate" race for your followers may not be thought of as such by your DM.

With monstrous races, it's difficult since you have to take high ECLs and LAs into account. The standard races are easier since ECL = class levels.

Basically, play the leadership feat as if you were a standard race. But when you're picking the cohort & followers "by level", treat this as "by ECL". Since you may have a cohort of follower with a race with LAs or monstrous hit dice, it's important to take this into account.

There's no strict rule that says that any of your cohorts or followers must be of particular races. Just go with what makes sense. For drow, your followers can obviously be drow, but they could also be derro, duergar, orcs or any other subterranean race that's appropriate for your campaign - assuming the ECL limitations. And if you're playing evil characters, there's nothing that really says your followers need to be "your friends" per se - they could just be attracted to your reputation and hope to get rich or famous.

The wrong way is to take a monstrous race with a high ECL and then give it class levels without taking the ECL into account. For example: PC playing a troll and then having troll "followers" with class levels of 1 - 6. That would obviously be insanely overpowered compared to a human with leadership & 1st - 6th level human followers.

09-10-07, 12:25 PM So if say my leadership score gives me 20 1st level followers and i want to attract 1st lvl drow which are ECL 3 then would I attract 6 of that type of followers? that seems right to me. Thank you , any more thoughts on this?
