| Lord Otaku08-14-07, 08:54 AM | I've seen it mentioned that Cohorts need an LA, but not Followers. Is this true? If so, do you just use their Hit Dice? |
| runestar08-14-07, 09:05 AM | Use ECL for them all. Else, if LA is not used, then the PC could just go wild with aggressive templating. |
| Lord Otaku12-26-07, 01:51 PM | What if they don't have ECL, and instead use challenge rating? |
| Merestil Haye12-27-07, 04:51 PM | What if they don't have ECL, and instead use challenge rating?Challenge Rating is entirely inappropriate to gauge whether a creature is suitable to be a cohort. The ECL of the cohort is a maximum of the ECL of the leader minus 2. If a creature does not have an LA, it cannot be used as a cohort. |
| Lord Otaku12-28-07, 07:18 PM | True, but I specifically said I know Cohorts need LA. I'm asking about Followers. :P |
| Rahvan12-28-07, 07:33 PM | A follower is basically a nerfed cohort, so treat him as if he where a cohort of his level, so if you get a lvl 2 follower then you could make him a Catfolk ranger of first level since catfolk have LA+1 (for a total ECL of 2) |
| DastardlyDan12-28-07, 07:57 PM | Cohorts are not required to have an LA. What I think you're getting confused is when they state that a cohort can only be of a race that has an LA (even if it's LA +0, like the standard races). Followers then work the same way, as Rahvan previously stated. |
| zook1shoe66612-30-07, 11:46 AM | but they talk about the "Level" this assumes you are using the ECL of the creature. otherwise i'll take a 2nd level cleric with like 50 templates on it and have something more powerful then me? no.... that doesnt work they are also letting you know that if something does not have a LA/ECL ("-", and not "+0"). it cannot be a cohort/follower unless your DM gives it one..... PERIOD! |
